Incivek -Hair Loss

My husband has completed the Incivek and only has 6 weeks left of the Peg and riva.  He has been losing a lot of his hair and it use to be quite thick.  Have other people had this same problem?

I changed my sheets this weeks. There was a pile of hair on the bottom sheet...enough to make a little wig...made me laugh..hate when it gets in my mouth when I am eating...I have been through tx before so I knew to expect this..it grows back...I also have thick hair so now it dries much faster..good luck to him!

Lost over half my hair...soooooo thin...cut it much shorter than usual....bald spot in the back. I looked like Bozo the Clown when the wind blew!

BUT! I am now eight weeks since EOT and it is beginning to grow back. I am finding little half inch hairs in the part line and around my face, as well as the nape of my neck. What it will ultimately be, who knows? It is growing!

PS for the ladies. I also had it colored last week and my stylist used a weakened solution... I think he said 20%.... It didn't burn my scalp at all and the difference has helped so much! Something to check on and consider if you colored pre treatment.

I made it to week 20/21 (out of 24 wk tx) before my hair started shedding. The good news is that from what we have heard from the majority of doctors and patients, it will come back!

My husband does not have any cirrhosis from his HepC virus.  In fact he has no symptoms at all.  When he started the new 3-meds he had a viral count of over 10M, but never a problem...just his liver enzymes were a little high.  This is his second bought for treatment...so far the Incivek was by far the worst...like trying to kill the patient to kill the virus.  However, he enjoys his evening cocktail hour and he will have a martini when this is all over...he is just trying to figure how long he should hold off "celebrating" after the final meds.  I'm just trying to get a gauge of the usual timeframe of when other people begin to enjoy a glass of wine after treatment.

I did 6 m. of pegetron last year and didn't really lose any hair, but it was very fine.  This year I did 1 m. peg then 3 m. triple.   My hair was fine while on meds, but 3 wks. post, I find hair everywhere, not enuf to turn bald (YET) lol, but just annoying.  I hope I don't end up wearing a do-rag to cover my sparsely covered scalp.  My biggest hair complaint is all the little peach fuzz on my face is prolific and longer.  Last time it was much more like the old peach fuzz about 6 m. after meds done.

Cant really say what is a good time as I am only in week six, but I have a wallpaper of a beer on my cell phone, and I told my Dr. that when treatment is over this is what I want, and showed him the picture, he laughed and told me that would be o.k. ( i do not have cirrohsis)

Like you and ID I lost much more hair this time than I did the last time.  I wonder how much Incivek changed that?

Martini?  I guess, for me, I will not be having any as I am in to cirrhosis
However if your husband has little damage I guess it would not hurt but I would check with his doctor

Best of luck

Hi I am 6 months post and I lost quite a bit of my hair, I would estimate 80%

Thank God I had one layer of hair left to cover the bare spots :)

Now, my hair is growing like a weed and my stylist said I will be able to get a hair cut in a few months, in the mean time I just had it shaped.
I am also taking hair, skin, nails vitamins with extra biotin, hope that is helping, my nails are a mess :)

Good luck to you

My husband is at only 6 weeks to go.  Had a Dr appt yesterday and everything is moving along fine. He feels pretty good (except the day after the shot) - still undetectable and hemo staying about 10.3.  His hair has thinned mostly over the last 4 weeks.  He did the treatment before for 48 weeks and I don't remember the thinning - but at least it is almost over.
For those that have finished this treatment - when is the appropriate  time he can have a martini again?  He relapsed before and he doesn't want to take a chance.  But he enjoys cocktail hour on the weekends...and looks forward to a glass of wine.

I too have lost a lot of hair, it didn't start coming out until later in treatment. It is growing back already, and after only 1.5 weeks of being off treatment, it seems to have subsided a bit. Good luck and best to your husband.

This is a very common side effect. I'm on week 42 of 48 and have had significant hair loss since about week 12. Like others, I've experienced this with previous tx and it has always grown back after tx. This time I've lost more than on previous times, so it is more distressing but I know it will eventually come back. Congrats on how far he has made it. It sounds like we will finish up at the same time too!

I lost quite a bit of hair during and post tx.. It is now growing back into a Rod Stewart hair helmet..  very soft but thick.. It was strange to go from long thick hair to short thin hair.. but, from the looks of things, it will be long and thick again.  Best of luck to you and your husband..

I am at 32 weeks of triple; in the last month my hair has become real fine and lost at the body; normally it is pretty wavy.  I treated for 6 months before and didnt remember the fine hair until after treatment and it went flat.

It did grow back and hope this will too.

Some folks lose more hair than others and sometimes the hair loss does not start until weeks after treatment. You just never know. I am on week 31 and my hair is barely an inch tall and my hairline has receded dramatically. I treated before so I knew what to expect but I would more than freaked out id this were my first time. I think the extent of my hair loss is somewhat atypical however. Like FrontRangeMom says the hair will grow back

Its pretty common, called alopecia. I've lost quite a bit and the texture has changed (very fine and straight). It grows back - I've done treatment twice before now (finishing triple therapy in 5 weeks).

I did 24 weeks of peg and riba and started loosing hair after about 2 months into it and it didnt stop "shedding" until about 2 months ago. It is now starting to fill out and I have tons of new growth. Still thin but getting better. I am sure he agree's its a small price to pay for SVR........good luck!
