Liver pain 1 month post tx

Anyone had that?  Not sure if it is my liver or my gall bladder - I have gall stones.  Of course I am convinced I am having a relapse.

yep i had that too- my doc said that it could be from swelling of the capsule around the liver. it comes and goes still, although i am waiting on my latest labs to see if there is a correlation,  meanwhile i am drinking a lot of water! i had it for a a few months now it's gone?

keep strong and know that many of us have had relapses and it means you just gotta go back in when you are ready. good news: new treatments coming!

I had my last pegatron injection on July 20, and the past few days I've had that familiar dull ache around my right side. I think I'm relapsing, but I'll know when I see the results of the AST and ALT after my one month post-treatment blood tests next week.

They won't be testing for viral load until 12 weeks post-treatment.

Although the liver itself has no nerves to cause an ache like that, my former doctor (now retired) said many people with Hep C talk about dull aches on their right side around the area of the liver, so it's possible that the virus may be affecting the area surrounding the liver.

Some people with extensive liver damage have had infections that cause soreness and some pain from the retention of fluid around the liver.

I am and have been having pain..like a uncomfortable dull ache in my right side..sometimes it is to low to be liver then other times it feels right in the area of the liver. Never had this before I found out I had hep c. I am frustrated because I fear I will be living with this forever.

I finished tx in Dec and at the 3 month EOT was still UND. I made myself crazy..was truly convinced that I had relasped. My TX nurse told me there are no signs of relaspe. Whenever I bring up the pain she kinda gets a puzzled tone in her voice and says she is not sure what it could be.

I had a ultra-sound down last week and everything was normal.. but I know that the ultra-sound does not really show the damage to the liver.

Does anyone have any advise for me?

Jankar try and think postive..I know it is hard but remember you have done everything you can and completing tx is something to be proud of.

Just finished 72 week treatment 4 weeks ago.  Have had all sorts of weird things going on since...  I too had side pain, thought it was my liver.  Totally convinced that was a "sign" , how our minds work :).  But the pain went away after about a week.  I think our bodies are just tired and saturated with the drugs and every inch of us is begging to be rid of the virus and the drug and is yelling out...

Hope you feel well soon jankar, keep me posted.

Take care and good luck, your on your way to a success

dull pain, intermittent, bearable. I think it is the gallstones - bloating as well which has happened in the past.  I have no fibrosis in my liver, don't know what could cause liver pain.  Just COMPLETELY PARANOID now.  Chill for 6 months?  When on treatment I felt that I was doing something - I guess now I have done  and have to wait.  Thinking last night about everyone else in the world in the same position - a well populated yet lonely place as well. If you have gallstones that could certainly be the culprit.  I've heard of people having post-treatment liver-area pain and it's one of those unexplained things.

Hi Jankar,

Sorry I can't help with ideas or experience about the liver pain. I hope someone else can. Is it dull or sharp, steady or intermittent, bearable or unbearable?

As for your worries about relapse, I don't know how to sort out that can of worms. I took my last ribavirin this morning, went for my EOT PCR at the hospital at 7:30 AM and am already worried about relapse, literally within minutes of officially finishing tx!

My NP basically told me to chill and not think about it for six months. Okey dokey, any other patronizing advice that she can give me to make me feel like just another number?

The upside is I never once thought about the potential risk of swine flu in the hospital.

Hi Jankar,
Have you been able to discuss with your Dr.?  Maybe they can run a few blood tests to see if all looks normal, liver enzymes, etc.

Hope you are feeling better : ))
