My husband does not wear a Med Alert tag, although he probably should (something I should be thinking about in the near future) -- unfortunately, when he started treatment a few years back he ended up having to take off the few pieces of jewelry he did wear because everything irritated his skin... even had to stop wearing his wedding ring.

The solution we used was to put all his prescriptions and allergies, etc. on a business-sized card and laminated it so that it fit in his wallet with his drivers license, etc.  Came in handy the couple of times he had to go to the ER... everything was right there in print, so all he had to do was just pull the card out and not worry about forgetting anything.  Best of luck with treatment! ~eureka

Hey Hector. Thanks for your input. The purpose of my question is that I am ill, I will be undergoing triple tx beginning next week, i am bi polar, have ptsd, have had 3 concussions and am on a d's.  I have a history and dr suggested it. I also am alergic to  certain drugs.  If an accident occurs, if I become disoriented, or other; I need to know that I will be safe. It is one less think to prep for and to neglect the obvious is simply an ignorant move should I not  My queztion was about the skin and comfort for jewelry and med jewelry in specific.

Hi. I am not sure why you would need it, but here is what I have done.

Background: I have End-Stage Liver Disease (ESLD) and liver cancer (HCC). I have many days when I am dizzy and have almost passed out many, many times. This is the main reason I got my MedicAlert dog tag. I have had episodes of confusion and disorientation due to hepatic encephalopathy (HE) as well. To the point where I don't know where I am or where I live. As you may or may not know when HE worsens a person may become unconscious or comatose so we want the bracelet or dog tag to speak for us. For us transplant patients, if we are found to be unconscious and treated by medical personnel with what my be a standard treatment for healthy people, for us the treatment or procedure could be fatal do to our liver disease and its complications. So we want any medical personnel to be aware of our condition. It will speak for you.

So the main purpose of the MediAlert tag is if I should be unconscious the transplant center will be notified and my sister and best friend will also be notified. The tag contains all of my medical conditions, any allergies, medications and dosages.

Most people I know that are either listed for liver transplant or post transplant have bracelets. I personally prefer the necklace dog tag as I wear a necklace 24/7.

MediAlert Foundation - Emergency Medical Information Record (EMIR) as many choices of bracelets and necklaces in a wide price range.
I am a member of their MedicAlert Advantage Services.

"Advantage membership provides comprehensive services such as managing and storing your medical conditions, allergies, and advance directives and ensures that your emergency medical information and identification is communicated to emergency responders through our live 24/7 emergency response service."

For a full list of products and services...
Their excellent website is www.medicalalert.org

Best of luck to you.
