New Treatment Therapy Helps Inhibit Hepatitis C

The study group included 104 patients with HCV genotype 1. Twenty-one took 1500 mg of R1626 twice a day along with peginterferon alpha-2a. Thirty-two took 3000 mg of R1626 twice a day along with peginterferon alpha-2a. Thirty-one took 1500 mg of R1626 twice a day along with peginterferon alpha-2a and ribavirin. And 20 took the standard of care treatment of peginterferon alpha-2a with ribavirin.

After four weeks, HCV RNA was undetectable in 29 percent, 69 percent, and 74 percent of patients in the respective study arms, compared to 5 percent of patients receiving the standard of care treatment.

Pharmasset has a new treatment in the works.  It is PSI 7851.  We will have to wait awhile before this one is approved; but, that is what we have been doing for quite some time now.  First post be the way.

I believe this new one is still around as the article was dated 08-01-08.
So many numbers for the titles of these it's hard to keep up.

wasn't 1626 the one that had all the WBC issues?
it's sounds great...but I seem to remember one getting pulled early due to all the issues and I'm pretty sure it was Roche's trial. (of course the trials are trying to find inhibitors that don't tank the blood....and they usually don't allow for rescue drugs in trials.)
