Prednisone for sjogrens disease

I have survived 2 bouts with tongue cancer several years ago. Constant visits and biopsies with my surgeon has kept it away. Almost a year ago I developed severe mouth ulcers and the cancer Dr is very concerned that all this inflammation will lead to a mouth full of cancer. Scary stuff. It took 3months to get into a rheumatologist and he ordered a biopsy to confirm Sjogrens. He said it is very rare to have Sjogrens cause this much damage. He ordered steroids for 2weeks, then colcrys. Neither helped so ordered prednisone 60 mg a day and did a blood test so could order Imuran. I am so desperate and miserable, I agreed to try.One week on prednisone I started feeling fuzzy headed, weak all over, terrible mood swings, jittery and so depressed. He started me on the Imuran too. I called the nurse last week and told her the ulcers weren't any better and couldn't function like this, so I am now weaning off the prednisone. Happy to off it, but discouraged that it didn't work. Now can only hope and pray the Imuran will help and that prednisone is responsible for the side effects. Has anyone out there dealt with Sjogrens? I am starting to think the Sjogrens isn't even the cause of the mouth ulcers, but after 11 months of misery and terrible stress that I'll be fighting tongue and cheek cancer, I have about given up hope of erer getting over this mess. Would appreciate any thoughts on this.

I still think you should go to the Sjogren's World forum. It is a different site. It is specifically for people with Sjogren's (as opposed to all Autoimmune Diseases). The people on the forum are extremely knowledgeable about Sjogren's. I think you will find the information, help, and support you need on that forum.

I am sorry that you are having so many problems with your mouth.

I don't know if anyone on this forum can be of much help to you. This is a Hepatitis C forum.

I would suggest going to the Sjogren's World forum (Living With Sjogren's).

The people on that forum are extremely knowledgeable about Sjogrens and I am sure they can give you the information, help, and support that you need.

The people on that forum have had just about every possible symptom that Sjogren's can present with and they will be able to help you.

I really strongly urge you to post on that forum. I am sure you will get answers.

In addition, you can search the forum and read through the various posts and learn a great deal about Sjogren's.

Best of luck.
