Report of MDCT SCAN OF HBS and want to know the patient real status.

Lat week my father did CT SCAN and I am describing here the findings and impression.

Clinical Information: CLD

Age: 63 Y

Blod group: O negative

Findings:

Liver: The liver is enlarged in size with slight irregular borders. The internal structure and attenuation are within normal limit. No focal abnormalities are noted. Vascular structures are normal. No abnormal enhancement is seen.

Biliary Ducts: The intrahepatic and extrahepatic billary ducts are normal in their course, width and contents.

Gall Bladder: The gall bladder is normal in size with smooth margins. No intraluminal hyperdensities are noted.

Pancreas: The pancreas presents normal size(proportion to age) with normal parenchymal structure and attenuation values. No focal intrapancreatic changes seen. The pancreatic ducts is not dilated.

Spleen: The spleen is enlarged in size with no focal lesion.

Kidneys: Both the kidneys are in normal in size, shape, position, outline and density.

Mild ascites is noted. No para aortic lymphadenopathy is seen.
Abdominal vascular structures appear normal.
The imaged bowel and other abdomnal organs show no gross abnormality.

Impression:
1. CT findings of HBS are suggestive of CLD without evidence of liver SOL.
2. Hepatosplenomegaly.
3. Mild ascites

My question:
==========
1. I need to know actually how serious the patient's liver condition is? My patient is now at home, taking rest, taking medicine as prescribed by doctor.

2. Can the patient be normal by taking medicine, rest and following diet roles?

3. Does the finding suggest a liver transplantation?

4.He was suffering from jaundice from last 2 months but now he has almost recovered from jaundice. Now he is almost normal condition. We had to give 4-5 bag blood over the last 2 weeks.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Looking forward your kind reply.

Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry that your father is having these problems.

I cannot answer all of your questions. However, there are a few people on the forum who probably can. Hopefully one of them will see your post and respond.
I will address a couple of things.

First, anyone who has advanced Cirrhosis, hepatosplenomegaly, and ascites, should be under the care of an experienced and knowledgeable Hepatologist at a large medical center. He needs a Hepatologist (liver specialist). Other doctors are not knowledgeable enough or qualified to manage his care.

Does your father have Hepatitis C? Or is his liver condition from some other cause?

I would suggest posting your entire question on the Cirrhosis of the liver forum. Just go to the forum at the link below and re-post your entire post. You can copy and paste it into a new post on the Cirrhosis of the Liver forum. Someone on that forum will probably be able to accurately interpret that CT scan result and give you the answers you need.

I wish you and your father the best of luck.

Thanks very much for your direction.

My father does not have Hepatitis C.

We guess the problem is from Alcohol but he stopped drinking from last 1 month.

I am going to repost it at http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Cirrhosis-of-the-Liver/show/1390.

Thanks again.

Doctor did not explain me in details regarding the patient status.

Doctor told me patient has advanced cirrhosis but not in much trouble. patient can take rest at home taking medicine regularly.

I am wondering if patient has advanced cirrhosis, should not we have to do more other than just continuing medicine?

Hope I will get a good explanation regarding the report.

Have you discussed this with your doctor?

It troubles me that patients and/or their relatives post reports and ask laymen for interpretation.  The DOCS should sit down with you and answer all your questions!

Shame on them!  They're dealing with people's lives and don't do this.

Sorowar, I truly hope you get a qualified medical professional to answer your very valid questions.
