Hi, I have question

while I was opening dressing for burn patient with raw area , patient has non treated virus c that was accidently discovered during stay in hospital , dressing on bandage externally I was opening by blade .

the external layer of bandage might have some dried blood from the patient raw area , the blade injured my other hand with wound over dorsum of my right thumb . there was bleeding from the wound of my hand .

blade does not come directly over the raw area of the patient but it was opening the dressing which might show dry blood

- i did liver enzymes 5 days after the incidence i found that sgpt increased from 23 to 35 and sgot from 21 to 25 - 24 hrs before doing the blood work i received covid vaccine ( sinofarm )

could you help me to assess my risk ? thank you

Just to add there really is no way to quantify your specific risk of contracting hepatitis C.

The best I can say is the risk of transmission of hep c in the situation where a health care worker should experience an accidental needle stick involving a patient with known hepatitis c is about 1.8% for one single incident.

Also you could have a hep C antibody test as soon as 12 weeks post a concerning incident.

If you had a risk that hepatitis c infected blood could have entered your blood stream you should wait 6 months and have a hepatitis c antibody test. If that test is negative you have no worries. It that test is positive you should have a HCV RNA by PCR test which looks for the presence of the hepatitis c virus in your blood. If that test is positive you should see your doctor for treatment to eradicate the virus.

Liver enzyme testing at this stage is meaningless. I had hep c for probably 8 years before my liver enzymes rose above normal range.
