is that there are people who "didn't do something stupid" and for them it can be really troublesome not to "know" where they got HepC from.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think its normal for anyone who doesn't know how they were infected to wonder. That said, HepC is transmitted via virus, not stupidity. It is a medical problem that strikes many people. Nobody deserves it.
I do not know either where I cantracted the virus from. I am 53 and was just diagnosed. I think anywhere from 10-30% of people do not know. My husband doesn't have it, and I know it drives me crazy not knowing, so I understand how you feel. My own son had to tell me "what's the difference?" I never did drugs, iv or other, so with the stigma that people associate hep c with, that i believe it what drives me nuts.
I am starting to get over it now and you will too in time. Best of luck to you.

I think the point, merryBe, is that there are people who "didn't do something stupid" and for them it can be really troublesome not to "know" where they got HepC from. I think responding as wyntre did is totally appropriate for people who are just or still struggling with the "how did I get this".
oh contrare....old enough to lhat and some....
point is what you said...most will never know....multiple exposures...no answers now, or ever.
and if we did know, what the heck good would that do really.....you gonna kick yourself daily for something stupid 40 years bacl...take yourself out....claim God is punishing you...What.....
oh, and those evil people that tried to save lives with blood...well we should do what to them??
the point is, there isn't much you can do to know for sure, and even if you did it wouldn't do any good to basically blame innocent situations where no one knew there was a risk!!
All of this serves only to add to the load of why me misery....which is why Jusyvtm expected some lumps and got a few....all in the name of lets fix what we can soldier...and learn to laugh at the rest.
Hope you all get the humor now....I realize this is grumpy land for many of us....making humor an all the more valuable adjunct to tx....and possibly as helpful at times as any info!!
There is a difference.
Maybe you're too "young" to understand it, yet.
wyntre
sure an airgun, an airhead...what's the difference....
let me know if you figure out who to go shoot.......grin!!!!!!!!

(Wicked Witch of the West)
it's kinda like asking yer parents....
did you KNOW when you two had seex
that you would have ME??????
now with what were they thinkin"............
Most don't know for sure how they contracted the virus.
Wyntre
I have to agree 100% with this. There was a time that I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, where I got it from. Now I look back at all of the blood that I have been in contact with through out my life and could have got it from anywhere. I have come to accept the fact "It makes no differance where it came from"
A short list of possible hep-c transmission routes.
- sharing needles
- blood transfusions prior to 1993
- tatoos
- body piercings
- sharing razors
- contamination from medical equipment, eg. colonoscopies
- manicures
- pedicures
- air gun vaccinations
- sharing toothbrushes
- intranasal drug use with shared straws
And that's just the short list.
Most don't know for sure how they contracted the virus.
Wyntre
what does it really matter how you got it? instead put your energy into learning how to get rid of it.
Reliving the last 40 years of your life? It's hard for me to remember what happen 40 minutes ago. Although there was this summer day in 1976 and her name was Diane....
your reaction is very common early on.
I think all of us go through it.
Just know that it is normal.
I think that (knowing me) it would prob drive me nuts not to know. I do know so I was easily able to put that question to bed. I DID stop getting manicures because I don't want to pass this in that fashion, so sure, you could absolutely have gotten it that way.
The reality is that for many people, they just don't know how they got it and they never will. And even if like me, you do know, it... doesn't really change anything except, I guess, that you can stop focusing on that question. My focus is pretty entirely now on just dealing with my side effects, taking care of myself, and taking my medicine so I can get better. And the people on this board have been an invaluable help to me in doing all of that.
I would say yes to both questions
