Telapravir Phase III Trial in Boston?

Hi folks!  I'm new here.  My doctor said the Telapravir phase III trial was supposed to start in Boston sometime this month, but I haven't heard anything and I'm reluctant to bug the clinic too often.  Anybody have any info on the real timing?  I run my own business and am reluctant to take on new big jobs if I'm going to be starting treatment soon, so it would be nice to know if it's imminent or not.  Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

I did call today just to say "hello"  Of course they haven't gotten any results back yet.  I guess they can't take my April results. Thank goodness my NP is really nice and understands I will be calling every Thursday till I get in!!  Until the end of time!!! :-)

It is my understanding that the center has 30 days from the start of screening to let you  know.  I was also told that after all the centers are done screening --- any left over "slots"  will be redistributed to centers that have waiting lists.  That way they get all 1050 slots filled.

I know of a center that has 9 and another that has 19.  I am sure there is some rhyme or reason to it all.  In the meantime.......we wait!

Good luck to all!!!!

It's a new study for people age 18-70 with chronic HepC strain 1 who have never been treated before.  It gives the standard treatment plus one new drug, Telapravir.  Detailed info is here:

http://www.clinicaltrial.gov/ct2/show/NCT00627926?term=Hepatitis+C&spons=Vertex&phase=2&rank=1

On my situation: I've been screened at Beth Israel.  If all goes as planned, I start treatment 7/30.  If there are others in the Boston area who wanted to get in on this and find that Beth Israel is full, try Lahey Clinic in Burlington.  I think they're just getting started now, so they may have open slots.  Dunno how many each center gets, but I think it's only a handful.  The total study is 1000 people and there are or will be a lot of centers participating.

From what I understand all telaprevir trial centers have to have the screening done by the end of July. so if you want to get in you better hurry. Call dr afdhal's office in boston, he has the trial and if his is full maybe they can refer you to another in the area. There is some talk of a 2nd part of the trial starting in Sept with less people.

One center here in Florida was supposed to start in April-actually started in June.  Another center was to start in June......has not started yet-probably will soon, at least by August.

I promised them I wouldn't call and bug them for 2 weeks.  I have 8 days left!!!! It is definately a waiting game.

Good luck to you.  It is a great trial.  Keep us posted.
