That's right, Pro. It took me a while to feel better post tx, but I believe I've turned the corner.
Besides eradicating the virus and helping to heal my severely damaged liver, The dx and subsequent tx helped me to make some other important changes in my life by quitting drinking and smoking - two bad habits that would have adversely affected my life, HCV or not.
So I feel that I've improved my health overall since my dx in 2004.

Nicely said Pro.
How do I feel? Eight years older.
I still work a physically and (to me) mentally demanding job. I take a bvttload more pills than I used to before tx for things like hypertension, cholesterol, etc. but given how I've abused my body over the years, it would be hard for me to blame all of that on tx.
I've watched my daughter graduate from high school and done lots of other cool stuff (like turn 50) that I would have given long odds against at other points in my life.
Life is good.
As for retreatment, there are plenty of people on this site who've had to tx multiple times before they got a sustained response.
"how has everyone felt since attaining svr?" Alive. Without having done the treatment, some may not be here to say the same.

(3 years SVR, 2 years post bilateral hip replacement--still working in the ditches)
Divide 8/1000. I'll take those odds. The study says those people could have been infected again.
SVR 7/27/10
good to hear desrt, that is excellent news, if you do not mind me asking how have you generally felt since then? is it possible to go back to feeling 100% after curing? and also if someone fails tx the first time, is there any hope in a second possibly a couple years down the road?
Oh yeah. Tx'd Oct '02 - April '03. All PCRs undetected since Jan '03.
It is a waste in the sense you are speaking. But most people feel it is better to try and fail then to have never tried at all.
This paper was written several years ago and the answer to whether the 8 patients were re-infected or not could only be answered if their original virus had been gene sequenced and then compared to the virus that showed up later.
Not to be hyper-critical, but I've never been particularly impressed by the 'learned papers' written by this particular author. The initials L.Ac. after her name stand for Licensed Acupuncturist.
Also is there any benefit to tx even if you do not obtain svr? or is it a waste in a sense?
http://www.hepatitis-central.com/mt/archives/2007/05/a_cure_for_hepa.html just curious, it says 8 people did not maintain svr... if it really was a cure wouldnt you be cured for good? Do you think they were reinfected?
@ mike i know what you mean, but i just meant anyone period who is svr to provide hope for someone like me
I have been SVR for 2 yrs in October of this yr. Only have known it since October of last yr. because the MD. made a mistake and read the wrong lab results. Idiot.. Anyway, yes there are many of us here. I don't log in much anymore because as Nygirl said you tend to go on with your life when you SVR. But I still occasionally look in on you guys and wish you all well. IT CAN BE DONE! HANG IN THERE.
72 weeks of tx here also -with high dose ribavirin...svr 3 years since dinosaur treatment...:*)
Finished 48 wks of SOC treatment October 2010. SVR April 2011.
I think everyone here has an inspiring story whether they got a sustained viral response or not. The inspiration is all in the trying and the helping of each other, which is in every post here, whether it be an answer or a question.
ME!!
A 1a Geno and cirrhosis, did 72 weeks tx and 1 year post May of this year SVR. Never get tired of saying or hearing those three letters.
Pam
Those people who were diagnosed in 2011 haven't had enough time to become SVR.
one must be undetectable for the virus 6 months after stopping treatment so there is a very small window for people diagnosed in 2011 to be SVR.
A tone of people diagnosed earlier are SVR.
Mike
TX'd 73 weeks.
1b
Stopped TX June 2004
There are tons of people who have been through here that are SVR but unfortunately for us a lot of them have moved on with their lives and don't post any longer cause they are well and enjoying their lives. There are a bunch of us though that are still around.
