Will Cirrhosis Resolve with SVR

Below is an excerpt from the Annals of Hepatology journal article from July-August 2014. It comes from a study out of Virginia Commonwealth University with Dr. Mitch Shiffman, Robert Sterling, Velimir Luketic, and Arun Sanyal, amongst others. I hope it will help convince patients that cirrhosis can heal. There are a lot of naysayers still out there amongst some patients. . As a cirrhotic, this article made me feel lots better. I hope it helps you, as well.

Long Term Changes in Liver Histology Following Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C Virus

The observations of the present study strongly suggest that fibrosis regression including resolution of CIRRHOSIS* will occur in the vast majority of patients who will achieve SVR with these future therapies (DAA's).

I want to believe!

I think it's the docs who have told us cirrhotics that achieving SVR is not a guarantor of improved liver function. But, I am very excited to learn that this is an area of study that is gaining traction

Now, if only they could figure out how a liver manages to regenerate? That is so interesting and may supplant the need for liver transplant ion in the future
