a question about insurance coverage, Canada

hello,

trying to get myself ready for tx and got another question.

if i start tx now, i'm covered by the insurance at work, so all meds are covered at some %.
the tx is quite long (48 weeks) and if during the tx i somehow loose my job.
my work insurance coverage be cancelled and i will have to start paying by myself if i would like to continue the tx?

did i get it right?

thank you,
andy

hi Will,

thanks a lot!

if i start tx i would like to keep as private as possible and probably not going to tell to my boss at least while i can keep it like that. so if the employer doesn't know about the tx (as i don't tell them), they can let me go if they decide to do that, if i understand it correctly.

i've asked my GI and he told me that he will give me a note for modified duties if at some point of time during the tx i need that.
also, the nurse from GI office, connected me with pharmacy CSR who coordinates between pharmacy, me, GI office and Insurance regarding meds and coverage.

i will try to call her to find out about the options in the situation like that.

i'm just trying to get little bit more info about the different situations during tx before i start it.

thank you
andy

I also forgot to mention ..under our labour laws ..it is against the law to fire someone because of illness..if that is the reason you think you might lose your job.

Hi Andy..All Insur. co have their own guidelines on coverage and continuation  on group policies. Some extend coverage for a certain period beyond the employee having been terminated or quits..and also I believe that once  they have committed to a drug regime program they would follow thru with full coverage even if you cease to work for the company for whatever reason.(this ,I am not certain of tho)

Maybe best to contact your group policy -coordinator at your place of employment  or if possible speak with someone directly at the insurance carrier and ask what the specific policy states.

You may also want to contact  TDP (The trillium drug program)  to ask what their policy is for someone that losses their coverage while treating.  I put a link below

http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/drugs/funded_drug/fund_trillium.aspx

Good luck Andy..
