As previously suggested we are not doctors and can't advise you except to say your mother should be under a doctor's care for her problem.  Milk Thistle does not cure fatty liver.

Your alkaline phosphatase is very high. You need a follow up with the doctor. It is not possible to determine seriousness of your disease and to make a diagnosis on line.

mj6000 is right, there are no doctors here. this is not one of the forums monitored by doctors like some of the MH forums. there is a researcher that stops by here every so often but most often he comments more on science related questions.

Do you have hepc?  Fatty liver seems to more common in people with genotype 3.   Fatty liver can also be caused from diabetes, alcohol abuse, obesity or poor diet to name a few.  Weight loss, abstaining from alcohol and proper diet can help to reduce or the problems caused by fatty liver.
Currently, studies are underway on certain drugs such as Actigall. This drug appears to reduce liver damage in cases of steatohepatitis otherwise known as fatty liver.  At this time, however, it is not certain how helpful these drugs will be. To repeat the point, losing weight is by far the most important treatment.

As far as can it be serious the answer is yes because it can lead to cirrhosis.
