Contact Gilead, they will tell you. Grapefruit interacts with most heart medications, as well as mango.

Your hep provider is in agreement with Medhelp’s ex resident HCV expert that grapefruit doesn't have interactions with Interferon & Ribavirin,
Douglas Dieterich, MD

It actually can increase some drug levels because of inhibiting a liver metabolic enyzme. However neither interferon or ribavirin is metabolized by that particular enzyme(p450) so it is OK to drink your grapefruit juice.

But there are many other drugs that do have interactions with grapefruit

I avoid grapefruit because it interacts with simvastatin and oxycodone. If you are taking other medications please check with the respective provider and the pharmacist about interaction with grapefruit.

I like to drink grapefruit juice but hear that it can interfere with some prescription medications. Is that true?
Answers from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.

Yes. Grapefruit and certain other citrus fruits and products can interfere with several kinds of prescription medications.

Don't take these interactions lightly. Some can cause potentially dangerous health problems. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before consuming any grapefruit or other citrus products if you take prescription medications. You may need to eliminate grapefruit products from your diet. Simply taking your medication and grapefruit product at different times doesn't stop the interaction.

Make sure you talk with your doctor as in the past grapefruit has not been advised.
