Crigger is correct in that Vit C binds to the Iron to help absorption.  I would be very careful in taking Iron because if your levels get too high it could really hinder your tx.  Like OH my iron levels were really high which has delayed my tx.  I would really talk to my Hepa Dr and do some research online.  I would not recommend to anyone to take iron supplements before or during tx.  JMHO

Have a great day!

Is your doctor a hepatoloist ?
My hepatologist told me too much iron can cause cirrhosis however I had high iron levels, the reverse of your situation.

Vit c helps absorption of iron. My doc told me that he did not recommend taking iron. He said it really would not help with low hgb while on treatment
