olive oil

Hi,
Quick question: is it OK to take Incivek with two table spoons of olive oil chased by water (which should total about 28g of fat)? I find it much easier to do than to eat a bagel stuffed with cream cheese.

I did the same thing as Arthursmom. You can find sodium free tomatoes n sauce too. Or I would just pour extra EVOO over a frozen alfredo dinner. It caused a lil gag reflex, but most things did during the first 12 weeks. Baked potatoes loaded w/ sour cream, soy margerine, n swiss cheese went down well n can be healthy.
Good luck! Karen

MUST BE EATEN W FOOD......

the reason is that liquids pass thru our system rapidly and with solid food of any kind, even a cracker, changes the way the meds are absorbed into our digestive tract.

If you are seeking a "liquidy" way to go, try heavy cream or whip it up fresh.
or if u like the olive oil, take a piece of bread or two and dip it.....

I am on week 11 of Incivek, have eaten more than my share of meals and snacks and have seen and created every possible combination there is.

Also, I have found that the more fat I consume over the 20 g of fat, and the more water (within reason) I drank, PLUS the MORE FIBER (metamuscil) the easier it is on my butt......and bowel movements.
I know TMI but it is a big side and no one talks about it.

Just eat, and eat well, when u r not eating crap.  You will lose any weight you gain, so don't even worry about it.
Good luck.....you can do it.
I am UND at wk 8 VL..... :)

Effects of Food on Oral Absorption
The systemic exposure (AUC) to telaprevir was increased by 237% when telaprevir was administered with a standard fat meal (containing 533 kcal and 21 g
fat) compared to when telaprevir was administered under fasting conditions. In addition, the type of meal significantly affects exposure to telaprevir.
Relative to fasting, when telaprevir was administered with a low-fat meal (249 kcal, 3.6 g fat) and a high-fat meal (928 kcal, 56 g fat), the systemic exposure
(AUC) to telaprevir was increased by approximately 117% and 330%, respectively. Doses of INCIVEK were administered within 30 minutes of completing
a meal or snack containing approximately 20 grams of fat in the Phase 3 trials. Therefore, INCIVEK should always be taken with food (not low fat).

How should I take INCIVEK?
Take INCIVEK exactly as your healthcare provider tells you. Take 2 INCIVEK pills 3 times a day, 7 to 9 hours apart, with food. Eat a meal or snack containing about 20 grams of fat within 30 minutes before you take each dose. Talk to your healthcare provider about examples of food you can eat.

I found 2 tablespoons of oil to be a lot more than it sounds like to take straight.  For me it went down easier over some whole wheat pasta and a little parmesan cheese and some diced tomato.  It got to be quite a challenge after a while to come up with options that I could choke down.  Almost everything I tried, I got tired of quickly.  Olive oil and pasta was one of my most frequent meals.  Pretty much what ever you can keep down is what you go with!!  20 gms of fat every 8 hours isn't as much fun as it sounds like at first \! ; >
