sore stomach

Hi All,
Its been some time since I have been on but again, I need your help. My husband is 52 with Hep  C and cirrohsis. He has been through the treatment and it did not work. Now it has been approx 3 mos later and he is having consistant pain in the stomach. The pain is not in the area of the liver it is about 2 inches above the belly button and extending to about 3" below the belly button. He says these pains feel like really bad gas pains.
Does anyone know what this is from? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thank you,
Worried Wife

Abdominal pain can be a symptom of any number of things, from the benign stomach upset to life-endangering conditions like bleeds.  My husband is also stage 4 cirrhosis, and if he were experiencing pain around the belly button, I would not hesitate to insist on a visit to the doc immediately.

Even though cirrhosis is a liver disease, it can cause other serious complications -- some GI related, some not -- my suggestion is he get on the phone with his doc ASAP if he has an attending hepatologist, or get to physician as soon as feasible.  If his pain is significant or accompanied by other symptoms (dark stool, stomach enlargement, vomiting, confusion) he should not delay and go to an ER if necessary.  My hope is that it's nothing serious, but with cirrhosis, better to err on the side of caution is my view.  Best wishes.  ~eureka

It it anyone's guess what this could be.  I would get your husband to a doctor as soon as you can and have it checked out.  It might not even be anything -- that happens.  You feel this weird pain and you know you are going to die only to find out it isn't anything at all.  But, you don't want to risk your husband's well being, because it could be something minor or major.  Sometimes minor things get worse and turn into major things, and you don't want that, so the best thing to do, is have him see a doctor.

Good luck,
Debbie

You should call his doctor and see what he recommends.  Abdominal pain could be anything from gas pains (trivial) to a tumor (serious) and you should have  doc check him out.
