supplelments with Telaprivir txt

Have decided not to take supplements with Telaprivir even though I have got many conflicting answers on what can and cannot be taken. Probably best not to take anything. This comes from someone who has been taking many supplements for the past 15yrs. to stay healthy. I truly wanted to continue on my Glucosmine, digestive enzymens and biosil (for hair and nails). My doctor's nurse said she thought I could. But after reading on this site and others, I now think maybe best just not to do it at all, although I do think the three I mentioned will be needed by my body. Does anyone have any research on this? This was a helpful site too:

You are right. It hasn't been released commercially but if you can get in a test trial it's available. btw Confused is my middle name. It's something I'll never forgive my parents for.

There is a possibility that Sam-E /Tmg(Betaine) with B12 and folic acid (I Hope I remember the correct B vitamins. this may need correction.) might still be safe during TX.  It his been trialed with Interferon and Riba and been shown to help but I don't know if it has been tested with a PI or not.  I asked someone who I consider very knowledgeable and he said it wouldn't interfere.  This was not the word of a Dr. but of a highly intelligent person that has studied it thoroughly. He was even allowed to give a poster presentation of his TX plan at a liver conference.  After 3 TX failures,he had an RVR.  He was  a geno 3.  I wish we could get more information on this in conjunction with a PI.
I don't know where you are at with this.  I just read on your profile that you have the TT allele.  I haven't kept up with the latest about how being a TT effects the Telprevir TX.  My husband has a poor response to the interferon and may be a TT too but we have not tested.  I asked about using Alinia with the Teleprevir because it helped my husband be a better responder to the interferon than he ever was before.(not good enough though.  The PA just shook her head and said there are drugs that interact with the PI's and she did not think Alinia was a possibility if he tries Teleprevir.  I wish I'd asked about Same-E but they probably just don't know at this point.  I do hope you will have such a stellar response that none of this will even matter for you.
Sorry for the double post but I'd read Willing's post above and it made me think about Sam-E and wonder. We just don't have anything definite to go on that I am aware of.  I may have my husband use Sam-E if he tries Teleprevir because of the known poor response to interferon but it would be a calculated risk and we would do it knowing it was a risk.  It will probably be trialed somewhere eventually.  The antidepressant effect of Sam-E is certainly helpful when on TX.
I've often wished for a booming voice from the heavens giving clear instructions on how to get Joe to SVR.  Haven't had that happen yet. :>)
I didn't see anywhere that you mentioned what your genotype is or if you have tried other TX before.  Forgive me if I missed it.

I am all for well chosen supplements when not on TX but leery of taking things on TX because you can't know what could interfere.  We had an educated word on what would be considered safe on TX, by a Hepatology researcher, but that was before the P.I.'s came out and the same recommendations may not apply.  For example,he had a study  to show that PPC did not hurt SVR numbers but actually helped a bit, but with the PI added, that might not be the case.  In time we may have more insight, but for now, I'd play it safe.  This TX is way too hard and way to expensive to jeopardize it with something that may interfere with the action of the meds.  This is just my humble opinion.
For a non-responder to TX, the right supplements can be a real God-send while not  able to treat.
I wish you all the best,
Ev
