HI, I am 12 weeks post tx and have noticed it since about 1 month post tx. I didn't know it was even a sx so I didn't mention it to anyone. If it doesn't go away I will follow up with my Dr. - Good luck to you and all...Fred

thanks for the info. That's more than my liver doc knew. I referred the info to docs office so people can be aware that this may happen and is a lifelong disability

I really have no idea.  My tinnitus persisted for almost ten years now, after SVR and sometimes its tolerable, and then other times it drowns out my own thoughts!  Right now its hissing and whistling at full volume.  I will try to do some research on cases of tinnitus fading away, and any related studies.  I just kind of took it for granted that this was my new little friend living in my ears....for life.  I have learned to ignore the heck out of it...even though I still hate it.

Do you know of any cases where the tinnitus goes away, or becomes tolerable? Mine has become such an issue that the Dr.'s are recommending hearing aids. I don't want to spend thousands if the problem could correct itself.

I can't believe that tinnitus is listed under the 'rare' side effects heading.  It seems to me that tinnitus during and after tx is one of the most common complaints ever.  Mine is whistling loud as I type.   I would ask: who has NOT developed tinnitus while on tx???

I have had a small amount of it as long as I can remember. But now its really a problem. It must be rather rare with tx. I dont see many people on here complain about it. Mine got real bad about a month after tx. Hopefully I am the rare case.

Great...I already have tinnitus, which the sometimes, high pitch & extremely loud white noise type sound wake me up.
i wonder if it will get worse.......that would not be swell.

I am 3 months post tx and have had tinnitus for a little over 2 mo. Just yesterday I had an MRI to look for abnormal stuff with my hearing. I have experienced a large hearing loss and my ears sound like they are full of crickets. My hep Dr says she has never heard of  this being a side from tx, and I know she has been practicing since 2001 when I had my first tx. Now the ENT and some other hearing specialist are talking hearing aids. Since I am over 50, they are saying its my age. Damned funny I just woke up that way one day. I did have a bad cold with all the extra's, but I had that for a couple days before my ears went crazy. It felt like they were clogged. I did antibiotics, then prednisone. Nothing has helped. This is a side I was sure not told about. I play music as a part of my living, and have been playing sinse age 7. My life has been altered severely by this.

I've got a better reference for you Kate. I got the following from the livestrong website:

In addition to the common side effects, more uncommon side effects can occur from alpha interferon and peginterferon use. According to the National Institutes of Health, rare side effects include tinnitus, autoimmune disease, severe bacterial infections, hearing loss, retinopathy, suicide thoughts or attempts, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, depression and seizures. Report any uncommon side effects immediately.

You should definitely let your doc know. I have seen a couple of cases on the web where the tinnitius resolved within a few weeks after stopping tx but you are well past that. Maybe some small infection or bacteria has gotten in and created a new problem. Good luck and keep us posted.

I am on triple med treatment and I have tinnitus. I had some before treatment but it is a lot worse since starting treatment.

I agree with Gerbils, that it might be a good idea to mention it to your doc and maybe see a specialist if necessary.

I am sorry to hear about your tinnitus. It can be terribly annoying. If you have it constantly you may want to mention it to your doc. I am also 3 months post triple tx and have intermittent mild tinnitus.
