tx after relapse

Anyone relapsed as a geno 2 and do well on infergen for the 2nd round of tx. I failed on riba inf and now my doctor is telling me to try inferergen even though the rate of cure is only 40% according to him. I don't know what to do. He said he would try it because I am 53 yrs old and could still live another 30 yrs if I beat this thing. That was an upsetting statement to me. Hell how does he know this will kill me for sure if I don't treat. My enzymes are good and my ultrasound was clear. Any ideas I sure could use a litttle input. I am scared

Thanks for the encouragement. I needed it. I treated from Jan - july 09. He did not check my viral load until I think 3 months and I was und then. I relapsed 3 months post tx. This doc told me yesterday that doing riba/inf  again would be useless. I thought maybe I could tx longer or something to increase my chances of SVR this time. Oh yes I was stage 2 grade 2 and I understand that tx. may lower that sometimes to a grade lower. I really appreciate your words of encouragement. Are you from New York I am a yankee myself. Philly

Hi Agatha I remember you from a long time back - I'm sorry to see that you are here and have relapsed.

Is this doc even a GI - how would he know possibly how many years you might live is he God?  That makes no sense to me, have you thought of having a biopsy to determine if you have/how much liver damage you have? Could be that you are still early stages why then would he say '30' years?  I would think you could live another 30 years even if you don't 'beat this thing' if you have a low level of liver damage you know and who knows what miraculous drugs they will have discoverd by then!

Dont let him get you down.  I don't remember the details of your first course of treatment. When did you get to UND? I assume you treated for 24 - you could always try more riba and 48 or something that is not nearly as hard as the infergen. Right now Telepravir and Bocepravir are targeted to geno1 but once they are approved who knows how long until there is something for a G2 - I always thought infergen was only for geno1 myself......

Have you thought of getting a second opinion and talking to someone who might have different options for you?

Good luck.
