I agree with ny and jd.  If I had treated when I was stage 2/3 instead of 3/4, my odds of achieving SVR would of improved.  There are many studies which support this and my hepatologist told me the same thing.

If it were certain that the PI drugs will be FDA approved and available on a date certain, it might make sense to wait.  Unfortunately there is no guarantee when the PIs will be FDA approved soon, or that they will ever be approved.  Since the availability of PIs is speculative at best, it is worthwhile to consider treating with SOC now, since your doctor recommends it.

I don't think stage 2 is that "minimal" honestly. What happens if you choose to wait and in between you miss the stage 3?  Cirrhosis makes it much more difficult to achieve SVR.........it makes sense to me personally to treat while you have healthy liver tissue left before you get to complications.

But stage 2 is very subjective.  What if you wait and lose your job and insurance? I never thought that to be worth it as well.

I wanted to treat then because I was healthy and had NO other health issues..

(thats what it should have said . )

I started my tx 12/23//07 and completed tx 12/12/08.
Like I said one said tx now, other said wait however he didnt know when new drugs will be FDA approved and done with-So its a personal choice- I just wanted to try and give it a shot while I had other serious health issues happening.

Well I had 2 hepatologists one said wait till 2014..the other advised to tx now and not wait . I chose to give  it a shot- No pun intended.
A very personal choice. Some peope tx with no liver damage..some wait till stage 3.

Good luck.  I know you've had some struggles just getting to this point and if your comfortable and trust your new doctor that is one less thing you'll have to worry about during the course of your treatment.

Wishing you the best,
