Could I Be the Only Person Calling Clinic

I have felt a  little sick  all weekend. I called at left a message for my nurse
first thing this morning. Seven hours later I haven't had my called returned.
I think they should check the messages first thing Monday morning.
Am I expecting too much?

I really don't want to be too demanding, but when you've spent a weekend
barely moving around I think they should have called a little sooner.

I was told I would have a reduction in my Interferon and the new
meds would be shipped. Well, no medicine arrived before I had to take
to meds I already had. When I called the Speciality Pharmacy this morning
the said nothing had been ordered.

With my neutrophil count near the bottom on the barrel I tend to get
a little frightened and would like to hear from the nurse.

Is it just me or do I have a problem?

I thought I'd just go by their pharmacy ,and pick them up, and found out they arent even in the same State as me! "

Syringes are cheap and come by the bag just go and make sure they give you the little tiny small ones, they are only a couple of bucks.

Good news. What a (not so funny) comedy of errors!

Glad you got it straightened out so you can get back to doing your treatment which is all you were try to do in the first case.

Not excepting no for an answer and persistence wins every time!

Take care.

Hi, Reva, I'm happy that your problem did eventually get solved!
This whole Specialty Pharmacy thing is completely new to us, and I guess it is only used for stuff like Hep C meds?
My Specialty Pharmacy sent me my Procrit prescription, but left out the syringes, to inject the medicine with. I thought I'd just go by their pharmacy ,and pick them up, and found out they arent even in the same State as me!
Good luck with your change in dose and I hope it helps you feel better.

Hector:

Your are not going to believe this. I talked to my nurse this morning she indicated she had not yet talked with the Specialty Pharm. She said the would call today. This afternoon I recieved a call from the S. Pharm. that
the nurse I spoke with briefly yesterday, when I could not locate my nurse,
sent my prescriptions electronically to the incorrect pharmacy.

Yesterday, she told me what she had done.  I told her she had made a mistake. She didn't bother to correct it. The speciality pharmacy called the local  pharmacy and they released their claim to the meds. Fortunately,  my local pharmacy and they've serviced me for at least 20 years.
Finally, the new meds are being shipped this afternoon. I should have them
tomorrow.
Again, thanks for  your

Is your doctor's office near by? I have gone to my doctor's office and waited for someone to help me when I have needed help immediately. It is a lot harder to ignore someone in person then a call back paper message. They won't let you just sit there all day. Tell them you need to speak either to your nurse or doctor. If your nurse can't or won't help you, then tell them you need to take to your doctor about your treatment. That should get their attention. Make it as dramatic as you need to. Just don't take no for an answer. Tell them you will wait until you can see someone to help you. This should get their attention.

As far as the Neupogen...Your nurse or doctor should state how your meds should be. Dosage, container etc. Pharmacies will do what they are told to do by your doctor or nurse.

Good luck.

I did not want meds that were not directly from factory.
Finally, spoke with nurse. She hadn't sent the prescriptions in to the
Speciality Pharmacy. She also said she would check on the Neupogen being sent pre-filled in the future.

I asked the nurse if she had anymore patients who followed along closely she said she had about two. I really wish there was some way the various staffs that work with patients couldn't get a little more in step with the needs of patients. I guess like with everything now that's asking a lot.
They're overworked and it just trickles down.

When I did get a nurse on the phone she quickly told me she had
sent my prescriptions to the local pharmacy. I then informed her that was not how it was done. I asked if my nurse was in and she said she had not heard she was out. Never got a call back from someone who could help.

I also spoke with the specialty pharmacy that should be taking care of my meds and they bounced me around. I am sick of them because I think they try to cut corners on my Neupogen by send vials and dull needles instead
of pre-filled syringes. Then they tried to tell me a pharmacist could fill some syringes and send them. I told them if it didn't come from the factory sealed

I agree with all, keep calling, and try to get a person on the phone.
Good luck

This sounds like a good plan. With my clinic, I do end up wasting gas (not to mention the back pain I get from so much driving), and going into the office, to speak with someone at the front desk, if I cant get thru.
I think since the new PI"s are being prescribed so frequently now, that our clinics are really swamped. I notice the Medical Assistant at the front desk is continually busy on the phone, but the same thing goes for the phones, at my PCP, although at least, after being on-hold for 10 minutes, I eventually get thru.
You should try asking your Doctor if he/she has a private ph # you could have, in case there is a real emergency, or if they have an e-mail addy that they respond to, within 24 hrs~

what is your abs neutrophil count?  Also what is your HGB at?  Low HGB can cause the 'not being able to stand for too long' problem.

My Abs Neutrophil is pretty low, it's been hovering around .6 - .7 almost all treatment (I'm in the middle of week 17).  No rescue drugs yet, haven't had too much of a problem with the low neutrophils so far.  I think it is more of a problem for cancer patients, but alway good to keep an eye out.

Thanks Hector...

I'm not running out of meds. The doctor was reducing the Interferon dose
because my neutrophil count was extremely low.

I'm already on Neupogen but the neutrophil count has still been difficult to stabilize. I don't want it to go to zero.  I will take your advise and continue to call. Maybe someone will eventually answer. Tomorrow I will be there
if I haven't heard from anyone by then.

They are open on Monday's.
I usually have an appointment on Monday, but because I was suppose
to start the new dose, I was suppose to wait until Thursto go in.

I'm a little worried because I do have a Neutrophil problem.
Also, I have not been so tired before. I can only stand for a few min.
and then I need to sit.

Also, have a weird pain in my side which may be nothing but is
bothering me. Since you never seem to know what to expect I try to
stay on top of things, but I don't want to be the "paitent from hell."

I don't know the situation at your clinic but I would keep calling every few hours until you hear back or better yet, speak to a live person and tell them the issues you are having.

Maybe your nurse is out of the office today? Talk to someone who can help you today. Tell them who your doctor is and that your drugs running out which could impact your treatment. Let them know that you need someone to order them today.

Don't be passive and wait for them. Let them know this is serious and you need a response today.

Good luck!
