5th year anniversary

Well folks, today makes five years since my live liver transplant. I won't bother retelling my story but hep C almost killed me, a transplant with my daughter as my donor, returned me to life and finally doing interferon treatment got rid of the nasty virus forever !

Now, I'm healthy, happy, active busy growing a garden, painting and loving life, grateful for the blue sky above and the beauty of nature.

.If you are doing treatment, don't give up and don't let the nasty side effects get you down !

My best wishes for everyone.
OH

Happy 5th anniversary OH!  Thanks for sharing, it's very inspirational I'm sure to those who come here reading and looking for answers and for help are all very inspired by your success.
It's a shame that with so many waiting to be transplanted that they don't do these donor transplants here in the states or Canada, etc.. I hope that soon they will consider this in all countries, if they have not already started..
If I didn't already say this before, but think I did, congrats also on your SVR!

You must have a great loving daughter, she sounds so courageous, my best wishes go out to her as well!

They do live liver transplants at some hospitals I know of in the US. Sadly many do not. I think the reason is probably that insurance companies don't want to pay for two surgeries. However, it is true that the donor is putting themselves at risk. We were very fortunate that my daughter had no complications. I did look into the statistics of donor mortality and complications of several liver transplant centers before deciding on one, as her health was a main priority.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support.

Oh, OH!

"Now, I'm healthy, happy, active busy growing a garden, painting and loving life, grateful for the blue sky above and the beauty of nature. "

We all have the dream of being able to say what you have said
How wonderful!

Although  I have not had to go through all what you have been…
We all have the dream of being able to say what you have said

Let us hope that we all feel that way!

Not having this virus will keep others safe, give relief to our families that we have a brighter future to live and love…

Removing the stigma attached will be a great relief for everyone.

Hey girl! I think your story should be told, it is very inspirational.  Do you have it on your journal page?  I know it would help so many people.
Much like Hectors story has helped so many people.
I know it saved my life :)

The people on this forum have been so supportive and helpful. Thanks to all of you for being there along the journey.

Dee~ I have a private journal which I rarely write in these days. It includes the writings I did in the weeks after my surgery, including my bizarre experience of being the first Westerner to be transplanted  Taiwan.
Often, I've said that if I could find a co-writer, I'd write a book.

These days, I don't spend much time online but I do check in here.

Wishing everyone healthy and contentment in your lives.

I admire your resolve. The power of positive thinking can't be taken off the list of things a patient's support community provides. It's a lot like when a person is in a gym lifting weights. Let's say you're trying to become proactive and take better care of themselves. You read somewhere that "light resistence training" be  added to a middle age person's workout regime.

For anyone who has ever worked out in a gym lifting ANY amount weight: a five-pound bench press may sound ridiculous. Perform 1000 repetitons of a five-pound weight and eventually you'll find that you cannot perform ONE MORE. Your trainer says, "Come on, you gotta push yourself. I'll spot you. C'mon! You can do this." So, you try one more. The trainer says, "Your almost there! Just a little more. You see him move his arm like he's helping you lift. You get that last repetition. Then you think to yourself that you couldn't have made that last repetition if he had not helped. Then he says, Good job!" Take thrity seconds." You tell him, "Man thanks for helping me on that last one." Invariably, the trainer says, "I was just fooling you. I didn't even touch the weight machine. It was all you!"

I simply cannot tell you how many times I've been in this situation in training programs where I'm observing or being observed.

The bottom line: You can if you think you can. A positive outlook when you're healing and recovering can mean the difference between success or failure.
