Are Walnuts safe? And how do I gain weight>

My first question is, are Walnuts generally safe to eat? I know that they are supposed to be good for the Liver, but could they be toxic in any way? I store them in an air-tight container and so on....

Question two:  I have lost quite a big of weight since I've been diagnosed, and want to gain weight before starting treatment. I have a good appetite, but don't seem to be able to put any weight on. Do you have any recommendations?
