Aww... I feel like Guarana gets a bad wrap. It's a berry and not a bean (especially not the coffee bean).  The seed is fatty and not soluble in water which makes it slow acting. The immediate jolt you get from those drinks is usually either from the sugar or caffeine (or whatever else is added) but the Guarana provides the longer acting effect without the crash.

Like any other thermogenic it can be dangerous as well as advantageous but it has other properties as well

OK lemme find some links to support my position......

Here we go:
http://www.mcvitamins.com/Guarana.htm
http://www.happyjuicer.com/supplements/guarana-extract.aspx

Ha ha. Both of those sites just *say* there is a boatload of research - neither actually cite it or supply it. If anyone even read this far....

Okie dokie:
The antioxidant and antimicrobial activity:

For weight loss:

Then there is good ol' drugs dot come:
http://www.drugs.com/mtm/guarana.html

Unlike caffeine, guaranine is slow to release and doesn’t give the initial quick burst of energy and then the quick let-down. Since the seed is fatty and not water-soluble, it is not quick to absorb in the body so the energy boost will escalate over a number of hours instead of all at once. This makes the active ingredients in guarana more beneficial for the body.

There is no wonder the Monster energy drink has gained a large popularity, but at the same time, people have starting asking questions about the possible effects of the drink on the general state of health. Some say that the energy drinks are usually made of certain ingredients that, although they are legal and verified, they can cause some side effects if the intake of energy drinks is too high.

There are two things that must be kept in mind when we are talking about the side effects of the energy drinks.

Side effects are caused by the combination of the ingredients used for making the drink. The Monster energy drink is also made of a certain combination.

This combination consists of carbohydrates that can cause the body absorption of nutrients and food into the bloodstream to become more difficult. This means that the person drinking too much of the energy drink can encounter gastrointestinal issues.

Monster Energy is owned by the Hansen Natural Corporation, and their beverages first hit the market in 2002. In a surprising contrast to Hansen Natural's reputation as a healthy, preservative-free beverage company, Monster Energy drinks have large amounts of caffeine, sugar and sodium. Monster Energy drinks contain more caffeine than most brands of coffee and soft drinks.

But since the OP has stated in her post, she only indulges in a Monster Drink about once a week.
I have never had a Monster Drink....but do oenjoy a good cup of coffee. But then again, I dont suffer from insomnia or anxiety, so everybody has a different reaction to caffeine drinks, and Monster also has a high sugar content, and a high sodium content.
I guess because of my age, I'm afraid about the ol' ticker

Caffeine
Monster Energy drinks also contain the central nervous system stimulant caffeine. Monster Energy drinks contain 80 mg per serving, less than that found in drip coffee, which contains around 145 mg per 8 oz.

And also, I had heard of a recent E.R. room death, so I thought I'd just mention a warning...I didn't want to get real indepth or personal, there are many links on the dangers of Monster Energy drinks, Keith~

Energy drinks with names like Monster Energy, Red Bull, Rockstar, Full Throttle, and AMP are now common fixtures in grocery stores, vending machines, and convenience stores. These products target young people claiming to increase attention, stamina, performance, and weight loss. The website for Monster Energy Drink claims to deliver “twice the buzz of a regular energy drink…and the big bad buzz you know and love.” Rockstar Energy Drink claims “to provide an incredible energy boost for those who lead active and exhausting lifestyles.” The glossy marketing tailored to youth has worked – 30 to 50 percent of adolescents report consuming energy drinks.

However, a recent report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shows that energy drinks pose potentially serious health risks. The report found that between 2005 – 2009, the number of emergency room (ER) visits due to energy drinks increased ten-fold from 1,128 to 13,114 visits.

A major factor contributing to these hospitalizations is the exceptionally high levels of caffeine in energy drinks.

Guarana, or its active constituent caffeine, should not be taken when formulated with ephedrine in diet aids or performance-enhancing supplements. Potentially fatal irregular heartbeats have been reported to occur.
Talk to your doctor or health care provider before taking guarana if you have

heart problems or high blood pressure,

kidney disease,

an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), or

an anxiety or nervous disorder.

pulled this up from www.drugs.com~

Since I was aware that the OP was prescribed something for anxiety, and something for sleep, I was worried the two substances  would be fighting each-other:  One serves as a stimulant, where as the other two Benzos she was prescribed (one being Temazapam) are meant to relax a person~

If you are worried, you could try to find a list of chemicals that are counter-indicated, during Tx.
I would definitely check on the turine and the ginseng. Caffeine is supposed to be okay, although dehydrating, so more water has to be added.
I noticed my non-fasting glucose test wes higher then normal range one day, after I had a couple cinnamon-rolls, before my labs were drawn, but my Doctor didn't comment on it. I just cut down on my sugar after that, and my next lab was normal again

Whoa. 27 grams of sugar plus all that caffeine can't be healthy. I used to like the Monster No-Carb and the Low Carb drinks. That was back in the day. Those drinks turn me into a positive wreck. Still, maybe it's one of those moderation kind of things.

I do follow that your question is related to these ingredients while treating so perhaps it is down to how the liver metabolizes all that stuff as well as their interaction with the PI's, Peg & Riba.
