The "Recommended Regimens and Treatment Duration for SOVALDI
Combination Therapy in HCV Mono-infected" for Genotype 1 and 4 is SOVALDI + peginterferon alfa
+ ribavirin for 12 weeks

and for genotype 2 and 3 (which are less common in the US) just Solvaldi plus Ribavirin for either 12 or 24 weeks.

So it comes down to your Geno type.

Also the prescribing information says:
"SOVALDI in combination with ribavirin for 24 weeks can be considered as a therapeutic option for CHC patients with genotype 1 infection who are ineligible to receive an interferon-based regimen [See Use in Specific Populations (8.8) and Clinical Studies (14.4)]. Treatment decision should be guided by an assessment of the potential benefits and risks for the individual patient."

So maybe you could ask your Dr about use without interferon but it does reduce the effectiveness in Genotype 1 and 4.

There are also some other new drugs hopefully coming that won't be using interferon. Solvaldi (sofosbuvir)/Ledipasvir combo pill. They have been having some great results but it is not approved yet hopefully if it is approved it could be available by years end. But as of right now the only way to get it is if you can find a clinical trial that you can get into.

The thing is it depends on your Dr's recommendations. The current condition of your liver like if you have cirrhosis and what is your Genotype.

hello, I want to do the treatment but have fears..

I have never done treatment and just went to the doctor and  is giving me the option to start now with the new sofosbuvir rivbavirin and interferon.
I was under the impression with the new med there would be no interferon..
I am not sure what to do as the side effects scare me and i already suffer from some sort of undiagnosed pain disorder. started 2 years ago and i have severe joint, muscle , bone pain. horrible twitches,and odd sensations in my legs and also i have to lay down and prop my head up because of the neck pain.

no doctor knows. labs are good ..been to rheumy and neuro.

I  have not had an MRI  of the brain. i asked if that is the next step to this mystery pain syndrome..and neuro didn't think i needed MRI.

1 docs said the pain was from the hep c and  then some said no .

        yes they are.  your profile states you are geno 3.  so you are able to tx as soon as your dr can get approval.  i have kaiser ins. and they wiil start treating in about 6 months.  for those that need tx sooner, your dr can put in writing that you need tx now and get it approved

Hi I found this, it is called Solvadi, Simeprevir is Olysio both approved.

Hi I am sorry to hear you had to have surgery for liver cancer.  Yes it is on the market, they are calling it something else.
Of course they are, as soon as I learn the name of anything it changes, ha ha
I will try to find the name, I get confused between the two new names
