I was waxing nostalgic the other day and it dawned on me that I was coming up on a milestone. Five years ago I decided to begin treatment for my g3 HCV on July 4. Independence Day seemed like a very fitting time to start. I was a bad girl and blew off the last PCR that my GI wanted me to do. I was (and still am) completely embroiled in a war with the health insurance/COBRA that I had. I picked at a bone of contention. Doc said that you weren't technically "cured" until you had 5 years of clean PCRs. Didn't want her bursting THAT bubble. In my mind, I was and shall remain SVR! Last week I also celebrated the two year mark since I finished tx for stage 3 breast cancer.
I'm seeing just a few names from some of the people who were here back when I treated. Ah, such memories. I hope you're all getting all of the support you need. This place saved my butt and created lots of great opportunities to laugh (unless we broached the forbidden topics - religion or politics - and then all he|| broke loose).
Hope you're all doing well. Me and my best beloved moved last year. I was sad to give up my cottage near the ocean but it was so much cheaper to live inland. We're 90 miles from either coast so I have quite a ride if I want to be a sun queen. Actually I see one of my doctors every month in Jupiter, which is on the Atlantic ocean side, so I have a monthly opportunity to stick my toe in the water. We reached a point where we had to do something as our insurance bills came to $6000 a year. Now we pay that much for taxes, insurance and mortgage combined on a nearly new much larger home. We still have our travel trailer on a perm spot at a CG about 20 miles down the road. That's how we found this place. It was my weekend hideaway while I was going through all kinds of health issues. I keep nudging BB to get it roadworthy so we can take trips down to the keys. I still love snorkeling!
Here's a pic of my backyard. Say hello to Isis and Cleo, my jacks. The yard was just grass. I live surrounded by farms and yet I can't find any good organic produce. The cancer dx did me in and I had to change so much about the way we eat. I belonged to a CSA but there's nothing like that here. I went with the food, not lawns movement and started digging up the back yard about 6 months ago. We put in a little patio with a firepit so we could sit outside and stargaze in the winter. So far I have two 4'x10' raised beds. Now I'm working on a 3'x20' bed that is in the ground. I also have another area sectioned off to grow corn and watermelon. Watermelon was my go to food on chemo. I couldn't handle much more.
Enough babble. Be sweet! Newbies remember that it gets better. It gets way, way better!
