Like Mike S. I nearly got killed doing Brown Water Canoeing. BWC is where you put in following an urban rainstorm and canoe the city waterways.
Who would have known that would be unsafe? I'm ashamed to admit that I did it. I don't recommend it to anyone. I still get kinda scared thinking about it although it's been decades. Truely, nearly got killed or worse.
I have to admit though, its a great feeling zipping along. Just be safe.

I wanna go :(
Funny, a friend is buying a kayak and leaving it here, to my full use. Tho we have no white water here, will do the rivers!
The Green and Yampa rivers from the Gates of Lodore down to Dinosaur National Monument.
Naw, just the 4 log drop at 3 wks. I am pushing the doc to get me an 8 wk but don't know if he'll go for it yet. Doin good though! (mostly)
Lots of whitewater and ocean kayaking here in Oregon and Washington
Canoes for me... I hate the confines of the kayak... BUT I LOVE WHITEWATER CANOEING!!!!!
I like the rapid shallows...
I did Calamity falls in the Blue Ridge Mountains...
I've done a couple of slower rivers in Alaska - but nothing to write home about.
Been about 15 years since I did some serious whitewater rafting... Sigh... I do miss those times.
I love being in the front of the canoe with a rudder partner. I'm good at front steering but not much for paddling.
And I don't mind doing the "FLOAT" where you just wear your life jacket or float suit and you go body only down in safe areas... It's a blast. River surfing... *GRIN*

Speaking of catching bugs, anything on a week 4 pcr yet?
I work near Parma (Middleburgh Heights). I have caught the bug and intensely researching kayaks! Gonna go back to Ohiopyle and run the Class 4s'! This disease has taught me to live as life is short.
We loved the sit on top kayaks. We didn't feel restricted and as if we would roll under and get trapped. All my experience has been with canoes and I was surprised at the ease of handling a kayak. They ride so high on the water, they just glide thru all obstacles.
Hey, I have been meaning to tell you..... One of my most favorite boat stories. I crewed on a sailboat race from Cleveland to Vermillian once probably about 1968 or so with a college friend. I remember we drank so much, and there was no place private to pee. I was sooooooo glad when he dumped me over the side at the end of the race in Vermillian. Whoooo - relief at last! And also, I have been to Hocking Hills and love your picture. (raised in Parma, OH)

You gotta like the Colorado River in Utah. The water is not really "white", either. Looks more like chocolate pudding. The local saying is "Too thick to drink, too thin to plow!"
But there's everything up to Class 4+ (Cataract Canyon) and the water is not too cold.
Good to hear from you.

Took my kids white water rafting on the Ottawa River here in Ontario, Canada. Total blast all around .. been aiming towards kayaking whitewater myself. One thing on the list at a time.
Ditto to how great it is to see you have such a good time while on tx!!!
Hells Canyon in Idaho, best white water rafting, Great experience....Leah
The sit on tops are as stable as the sit inside. The main difference is that the sit on top gets wet, but is self bailing. The sit inside will keep you dry of you use a skirt, but does not bail if you do get water in it.
Sit on top is popular in Florida where the water is warm - not so popular in Maine!

Just wanted to say that it is great to hear that you were able to enjoy your weekend rafting, despite being on an intense treatment.

Those sit on top boats stable?
Sounds like great fun. My hubby and I kayaked on the S Llano isn Texas last year and were hooked. I like those sit-on-top jobs. Like you we were ready to buy on the spot ---------------- but living in W Texas, it isn't really practical. I will google Ohiopyle
frijole (displaced buckeye)
I used to go there and white water raft all the time when I was in college. There weren't any restrictions about anything back then - you could go down on your back if you wanted to - and we almost got killed more than a few times.
