MRSA

I have Hep C and Parkinsons Disease.  According to my blood work my Hep C is not active, but my PD is at stage 4.  My sister recently broke her foot and hip and injured her right arm.  She had surgery and a week later had developed a bad MRSA infection in her arm wound.  Doctor cleaned it out and bandaged it. She went to a "skilled nursing" facility to rehab.  The wound once again was not properly addressed and had a lot of infection. She went back to hospital and doctor "cleaned" the wound and said with all the oral antibiotics she is MRSA free. My question is what risks am I subject to with MRSA? This process has been going on for two months and besides living with me and sharing a toilet, I have been with her to help her through all these difficulties at two different hospitals and the nursing home which are all riddled with infections.  What should I do to protect myself?

Hi there.   My son in law was infected with MRSA while I was staying with he and my daughter recently.  They live in Jax, Fla and I was there to visit my docs at Mayo Clinic.  Was concerned about being exposed as I was sleeping there so when I met with my Dr this is what was said.
BTW. The infected wound was on his leg from being kicked playing soccer.

Many of us carry MRSA on our bodies particularly on our arms and legs and never have a problem.  It's normal bacteria that's found in and around our environment which we are unaware of its presence.  Our immune system naturally kills it off and rarely are we infected by it.  As Dontworry has said just use good hygiene and you will not be at risk for infection.
I was there 4 days and no problem.

Hi There.  If you "Google"

"How to protect yourself against MRSA"  There is lists of thing to do to protect yourself from MRSA.  What I got out of that information is good hygiene, good house cleaning, washing/drying in hot water and not sharing personal items.
