May is National Hepatitis Awareness Month

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month and the American Liver Foundation urges everyone to learn what can be done to prevent the spread of hepatitis. Many forms of hepatitis are preventable and many more can be treated if detected early.

May is National Hepatitis Awareness Month, which was first designated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2001. This is an important opportunity to help raise awareness about viral hepatitis in this country. With up to 5 million Americans affected by chronic hepatitis B and C, there is a lot that still needs to be done to improve prevention, education, and access to medical care and treatment!
2012

May 19, 2012 has been designated as the first National Hepatitis Testing Day by the CDC. Since most Americans chronically infected with hepatitis B and C do not know their infection status, improved screening and testing is essential to reducing the burden of these two serious diseases. The availability of better treatments for hepatitis B, and a cure for hepatitis C, provide compelling reasons for Americans to get tested!

Thanks for posting this info.

I have been thinking about ways to promote Hepatitis C awareness and to my great shame I had no idea this was Hepatitis Awareness month!!

Pooh posted a link that shows several states have facilities that offer free testing for HCV in May and I didn't even put it together when I read that link (and all the related ones).
