Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Champ.

Sorry, this is way off topic, but a few months back we WERE talking at Amer. Idol and 24, so...

I happened to catch the Nathan's Hot Dog eating championship today.   An American won it this time with a new world record of 66 hot dogs!  Groan.....   This makes my stomach hurt just the thought of it.   I think that the most hot dogs I've ever eaten in my entire life at one sitting was 2.

Anyhow, Happy Independence Day, God Bless America!  We are so well fed, aren't we?   :)

I saw it live on TV as well. The reigning champ, Kobayashi, was within a single dog of Joey Chestnut (eventual winner) at the 12-minute ending bell. In what was in effect a photodog finish, a review of the tape showed that Kobayashi suffered what is termed in competitive eating circles a "reversal of fortune" -- i.e. he barfed -- and therefore was penalized three dogs. Kobayshi, allegedly eating injured this year (sprained jaw, no joke) vows to return next year to take back the Nathan Famous' Hot Dog belt that he has worn for the past six years. For those not familiar, Kobayashi is famous for his "Solomon" eating technique, where he breaks the dogs in half, then dipping the buns in water, before pushing them down his throat at a rate of more than five dogs a minute. Kobayashi weighs a staggering 131 pounds.

I did eat some Barbeque, baked beans, cole slaw, and my choc!  But, I had to forego the festivities tonight-fireworks.   I can't really do the crowds thing w/the thousands of people that are at all of our local fireworks displays.  My white cells are still below normal and even though they did come up a few points, still at 2.4 and I've been advised against crowds, being around a lot of kids and sick people.  I don't have any small children or grandkids, so that wasn't an issue.  I do miss going to fireworks.  It's really gotten too rowdy at most of the displays that I've been to (around here) in the past couple of years. I can't handle that and treatment.  Anyway, I'll enjoy watching it on the tele for now.  Have fun.
