Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia to new Born Baby

Hi All,

I am new to the community. I am from India.
My question is related to "Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia".

Our first baby was born on 22 Dec 2016. He was diagnosed with "Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia" just after birth and died on 24 Dec 2016.

Our Gynecologist looking over my wife during pregnancy missed this condition entirely and we got to know about it only 1 day prior to Delivery. Doctors said that they could not operate on the baby because the BP was not getting stable. When they gave us no hope, i decided to take our baby off the ventilator.

I need to know, is there a specific reason this condition could have happened with our baby, maybe because of something not being right with us(the parents). A doctor with which specialty should i consult to get us checked before deciding to go for next baby?

I need to make sure this does not happen with the next time, because the pain was unbearable for my family and we do not want to go through the same situation again.

Isolated congenital diaphragmatic hernia is rarely inherited. In almost all cases, there is only one affected individual in a family. When congenital diaphragmatic hernia occurs as a feature of a genetic syndrome or chromosomal abnormality, it may cluster in families according to the inheritance pattern for that condition.
