Eye pain, eye herpes?

Asking for a gentleman I'm taking too that is having this issue, Hi- I have hsv2(genital herpes) for 7 years. I'm very cautious with washing my hands and taking out and putting in my contacts. This morning out of the blue I woke up and my left eye lid is very sore, puffy and red. Every few blinks it gets blurry and feels like something was in it. Washed my eye out and the same feeling. Put my contacts in same feeling. I've read eye herpes almost always travels in the nerves to the eye. Any idea what my issue is? Could I have have slept on it wrong? What other eye problem could it be? Thanks.

If you feel like something is in your eye then there is or just an irritation from using contacts. There are 2 types of eye herpes, 1 is from hsv1 and the other is from the virus that causes shingles or the chicken pox herpes. If he does not have hsv1 then you can rule that out and coming down with a shingles outbreak is most often from older people and having it in the eye area is not common at all.  Just try some eye wash and dont be concerned that its connected with your hsv2 herpes cause that one does not affect the eyes.

Ocular herpes does not arise from genital herpes. Per Anna Wald, it's most likely to be caused by oral herpes, usually HSV-1, waking up and traveling up a nerve path to the eye. He needs to be seen by a doctor - it could be something else.

Sounds like conjunctivitis. However, it's best to go see a provider and have them check it out or swab it.
