Oral herpes from asymptomatic person

Hi all. My current situation is this: I know that I am negative of HSV-1 and HSV-2 from a blood test done 2 months ago. I kissed a masseuse 2 days back for around 5 seconds and now am worried that I may have caught HSV-1 from her.

Thing is the masseuse had no visible symptoms of oral herpes. She was 10 days into the job (was never in this line of profession) and I thought she had initiated a kissed because she really opened up to me during the session. Only found out later that she had been kissing a few other customers who really hit it off well with her. Yes I do, naive thinking of mine.

Anyway, I would just like to get a poll from people who knew when and who they caught the virus from. Out of all the individuals with oral herpes, how many caught it from an asymptomatic individual?

Most that have oral herpes got it at childhood as their immune systems are not yet strong. Yes shedding does occur 18% but you can knock that down to close to zero for contracting it without a sore as adults have very active immune systems.

Hi sir,
Is the risk still close to zero if it involve romantic kissing and a long time partner ?
I'm not sure about that active immunity thing protecting us from hsv1, but if your partner has hsv1 and you don't, there is a chance you'd get it, if you don't already have it.

Have you ever tested? Or are you concerned about your partner getting it from you? In either case, whoever doesn't have it may actually have it. About half the adult population has it, and 90% of them won't know it because they never get symptoms. Testing with an IgG type specific blood test is a good idea. If both have it, there are no concerns for transmission because you can't get what you already have.

Hi Dave. Appreciate the response. My research from the Internet showed me that 18% of the time people with HSV-1 sheds the virus without having symptoms.

Are you speaking from experience when you said chances are close to zero? I.e. Most ppl you know who caught oral herpes caught it from someone with an open sore/recovering sore.

Hi, the odds that you just contracted oral hsv from kissing , when she did not have any lip sores at the time, is close to zero.
