Herpes symptoms on both sides of genitals?

I have read numerous older question's answered by Dr HH stating that hsv2 only appears on one side (dies not cross the midline due to it following one nerve line to break out) does anyone know if this is true/false? My situation is I had 2 negative blood tests after my last incident if unprotected sex which was over 4 months ago since then 2 incidents of protected sex. I had some what I thought were pimples scattered on my buttocks area not very painful or itchy. I tried to squeeze one and it did look blister like after this. It faded a after a few days. Now i have a scattering of red pimple like lumps on both sides of buttocks just days after the other had cleared. Doed this sound normal for hsv2? I already have hsv1 orally for years. Also how likely is it that one of the incidents of protected sex caused this?
