Can you get oral herpes (hsv-1) by sharing toothpaste?

My brother has oral herpes and my sister and I were at his flat, we used the bathroom, the toothpaste and the hands towel. When were having dinner he told us he had herpes, I didn't realize because it was late in the night. It's been two day since that happened and my sister and I are feeling like our lips are burning like when you eat pinneapples or eggplants sometimes my mouth gets itchy I just feel like that right now. It also looks like he was in the most contagious stage, and I saw him several times taking his hand to his mouth. My sister and I never get cold sores and anyone else in my family except my brother. We are virgins and haven't kissed anyone yet. Is it possible to get oral herpes this way (from toothpaste, food, toilett etc) My mouth is itching right now and I'm scared cause I wouldn't go to school with that on my mouth.

How old are you and your brother that don't have herpes or don't think you have it? Most adults 50-80% have it by the time they are adults. I have read higher values such as up to 90%. So you could have had it already not by sex just by sharing a glass of something like a drink. You can get it by saliva, such as kissing, direct contact with the blisters, droplets in breath, sharing toothbrushes or eating utensils. Not sure about toothpaste going onto a toothbrush then onto your brush. Also, skin contact with infected area. FYI I got HSV oral type 1 when I was a virgin. So you can get without sex of any kind. It usually takes a couple of weeks to get the blisters or tingling on the lips. So if you feel that tingling you may have gotten exposed before you know it happened. You don't always get an outbreak. Some people never get them but can still spread them. Here is a link to both oral HSV 1 and HSV by sex and HSV 2.
