Chances of HSV-2 Transmission?

Hi everyone,

I'm sure this is a common scenario, if anyone can provide a link to a previous discussion of the exact same thing, or an answer, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I am a straight male with HSV-1 from childhood and no previous HSV-2. I had sex with a woman two nights ago who told me she has HSV-2 and has never had an outbreak, but has previously infected someone through asymptomatic shedding. She told me that guy did not wear a condom. She also said she had unprotected sex with another guy since then and did not infect him.

I fingered her and also had protected vaginal sex, in both missionary and doggystyle positions. Now, two days later, I'm feeling tingling and itching around my inner thighs and butt. I can't see or feel any bumps anywhere. My questions are:

1) Is it too early for symptoms like that to show up?
2) Given this information, how likely is HSV-2 transmission,
  a) assuming she was shedding?
  b) not assuming anything?

I guess more specifically I'm wondering if anyone can report transmitting or receiving HSV-2 in the same or a similar manner.

If I got HSV-2, it's not the end of the world, but I'd like to know for the sake of avoiding or warning other potential sexual partners. Regardless, I'll get a blood test in 6 weeks or so (or a swab test if/when lesions show up).

Thanks in advance!

Now it's three weeks out, and I still haven't seen any identifiable classic herpes lesions. But I'm still experiencing regular itchiness on my scrotum, pretty intensely, and less intensely on my butt cheeks and around my rectum. I'll also get mild burning and itching in my pelvic area and in the crease between my inner thigh an genitals as well.

I know the symptoms of herpes are different for everyone and nonexistent in many cases, but has anyone else experienced just these types of symptoms without sores and had it be HSV-2? Is there some other non-STD ailment that could be causing this?

One thing I should mention is that around the same time as this sexual encounter, the temperature in my city dropped pretty rapidly and it has remained colder since then. I have felt increased itching elsewhere in my body too, including on my shoulders, chest, and upper back. But it's by far been worst around my nether regions.

Thank you so much for your response! That makes sense, but I am still a bit unsettled, as there must be some way that HSV-2 spreads through protected sex. I guess I'll have to just wait and see.

Hi, first of all if your doggie style did not expose your pubic mound area to her genital area, there was no risk and fingering her is not a risk either for oral or genital herpes.
Even if your pubic mound did make some contact, your pubic hair would act as a barrier preventing the virus from being forced into any mound nerve.
If your still concerned have a blood test in 3 months .
