Cold sore from makeup brushes?

Hi, I posted this already, but I did it in the wrong forum!

I had some questions. I recently got my makeup done a couple of weeks ago for a wedding. The makeup artist that was doing the bridal party traveled to the house we were getting ready at. She uses her own brushes and makeup products. I had the first makeup appointment for the morning, which was the first appoint for the whole day for the artist. Now it's been over two weeks and I noticed a burning red spot on my upper lip yesterday!! It's on the border of my lip, and it's tender to the touch. It's noticeably pink/red, and I don't know what it is! I woke up this morning and it looks like the reddish color has now turned to pink, but it's tender to the touch, or if I smile the area feels right and tender. Could this be a cold sore? I've been tested before and I know I don't have the virus! What are you thoughts? Could I have gotten something through the artist's makeup brushes? I can only imagine how many brushes those lips have touched, as well as the product! Any insight you have would be great, I'm really upset about this.

As a makeup artist, I just had to say that you can definitely pass on HSV with a makeup brush. If a brush has touched the lips of someone with a cold sore, it will most certainly pass it to someone else if it hasn't been cleaned properly. I'm not sure why someone would say that a lip brush would "stay dry", it's inaccurate but also irrelevant; brushes must always be cleaned thoroughly after every job to avoid the spread of any infection. Infections and viruses can also be passed on if the lip brush has been "double dipped" into the product.

I honestly don't think make up BRUSHES would transmit HSV.  And I would be surprised if she used a lipstick on your lips from a tube that was used on other people.  That would be the risky thing, using the same lipstick.  The brushes would stay dry and wouldn't normally come in contact the lip area where cold sores are normally found.

By the way, the test for HSV 1 is not great, it misses one out of 10 cases of HSV 1.

If the red area keeps getting lighter and smaller and never blisters or gets worse, I would be less concerned that this would be a first infection with herpes.  Your symptoms are pretty mild for a true first infection of oral herpes.
