Confused

I recently tested positive on an igg test. Results just stated >5. My ex wife of ten years tested negative and so has my current gf of 1.5 years. I have not had a breakout at all. Well nothing that resembles any pictures I have ever seen. I have had tiny papercut looking sores before but it would just be one and only appear after rough sex.. should I get tested again how likely is it that I can have unprotected set for 12 years and not pass it on.

Greater than 5 is a good sign that you're actually infected, but I don't love not having your true index value.

Tiny papercut sores can be herpes, but how long do they last? If they don't last at least a week, they probably aren't herpes. You can get those cultured if they appear again.

Chances are excellent that if you do have herpes, you wouldn't infect anyone.

If you're male, and your partners are female, and all you do is avoid sex during symptoms, the chances of transmitting are about 10% a year, assuming a long-term, monogamous relationship with sex 2-3x a week.

If you add in daily antiviral use, that drops it down to about 5%, and when men use condoms with every single intercourse, transmission is reduced by 96% to an uninfected female.

So if you want to know your true index value, yes, get tested again. I'd suggest using either STDCheck - https://www.stdcheck.com/herpes-i-ii-test.php - or LetsGetChecked - https://www.letsgetchecked.com/home-herpes-test/

The tests are the same, so go with cost vs convenience - whichever matters to you. They both run specials all the time.

Keep me posted.

Thank you for your response. The sores are normally gone in a few days. And never get bigger than the tip of a ball point pin. I used stdcheck.com the first and wasn't very satisfied(false positive for syphilis as well as the nonspecific index value for hsv2) i will try the other one.
Ohh that's good to know about STDCheck. Thank you for letting me know about them.

A false syphilis test can happen on the RPR or VDRL - that's not uncommon. What's unfortunate is if they didn't follow it up with a confirmatory test - that's standard protocol.  They say they do.

Good luck, and let me know. :)

I was left to believe it was positive till I paid for the doctor consult who told me about the follow up test saying it was negative for syphilis
Oh well, that is... well, we aren't allowed to swear here, so I'll leave that to your imagination.

That is absolutely immoral and unethical healthcare. I'll be recommending LetsGetChecked from now on.
