I think I had a primary oral and primary genital outbreak at same time so if it comes back positive hsv1 i think i have it both places.....will keep you posted
Remember what I said though, positive for HSV1 does not prove a genital infection, the odds are overwhelmingly with an oral infection. I agree it would be a good idea though. You can take things further after that test.
Thx for your prompt responses FLeetwood.
It's so frustrating to be in this ambiguity. Western blot here I come!
A most common place for the sores is just on the inside of the vaginal lips, particular if oral sex is the culprit. There is almost always sores at the point the virus enters and very rarely internal sores where they can't be felt.
I could have sores internally and not know.
Sorry, I am misunderstanding, you think I don't have it because I don't have external sores?
That's the issue though, except external sores. This is what herpes does best, the predominant symptom, not just a random one that is missing.
Even for people infected with genital HSV1, what you describe is extremely rare amongst that population.
There is also the issue that if HSV1 is detected, you won't really know if it is an oral or genital infection.
OK. I am almost 100% sure I don't have HSV2.
So then its HSV1 which has a higher false negative rate.....10%!!!! I think I got it from oral sex. So now what? I guess I could be part of the 10%.
Every doc has told me to give up on testing for herpes but goodness, all the symptoms are so similar except for external sores. Impossible not to have external sores with herpes they say. I guess I could have internally and never know.
Maybe its just better to do Western Blot and be done with it already. I am soooo scared.
The ELISA tests are over 97% accurate for HSV2, but over 90% for HSV1.
I may do a Western Blot then thanks.
I am so nervous though. Torn, I want it to be positive so I can move on already and then I want it to be negative b/c I don't want to have herpes.
Do you know how accurate ELISA blood tests are at 6 months?
Herpes just wouldn't be providing this consistent level of symptoms.
You could try a Westernblot that would be over 99% accurate for identifying the presence of HSV.
At one time I felt a pencil eraser type sore internally, never got it swabbed....couldn't get to a doctor.
I am doing an MRI, but neurologist doesn't think it's a nerve problem.
Could it be that because of these constant symptoms, my body can't develop antibodies?
Also, I got these symptoms 2 weeks after receiving oral sex from unknown STD status male.
In terms of your questions:
1. No, you have a total of 4 to 5 months without antivirals including the first 10 weeks.
2. I'd suggest this is conclusive that you don't have herpes.
3. I'm not sure this is an STD at all.
4. This does seem nerve related. There could be an issue of compressed nerves in your lower spine or even an entrapped nerve in your pelvis.
