Could I've been misdiagnosed for Herpes?

I've been having unprotected sex with a guy friend of mine, that I've known for little over a year now. We've only been doing things for about a month or so. He said he positive he's clean, he wasn't tested not long ago. So I'm wondering if I could of been misdiagnosed. Here's how the symptoms went.

Day 1: Slight irritation & itching in vagina & anus openings.

Day 2: Itching was replaced with pain in both areas. Burning sensation when urinating & pain feels worse after urinating. It made it where I tried my best to not use the restroom (Stupid I know.) I also took some of my mother antibiotics since I had a feeling it was a UTI.

Day 3: The antibiotics made the pain subside, I still had slight burning when I urinated. Another issued appeared after however. I became constipated, which I believe was caused by myself since I pretty much didn't use the restroom until I absolutely had to. So I constantly tried to force myself to go poop with no luck of course, just kept making myself more sore. By the end of the day, I took some magnesium citrate & tried to relax.

Day 4: By the morning I was able to poop some of it out but with extreme pain. (scale 1-10, it was an 8) This made me feel better for about 2 hrs, then the same feeling came back & I still couldn't poop. It was bearable so I dealt with it and spent the day watching TV. The burning sensation when I urinated was completely gone by the morning & the pain that followed was gone as well. The pain I felt now was only in the anus from what I believe to be cause I still couldn't go poop.

Day 5: The pain was beginning to rise again, so I took myself to the hospital. After describing my symptoms, I gave a urine sample & the did a examination of the vagina & anus. I told the doctor that the pain I once felt in the vagina was gone & the only pain I felt was from my anus. The doctor looked at it for less than a minute and said I had herpes as well as a UTI. (Two swollen glands & a small single red bump on my butt cheek. a good distance from the anus opening.)

The day after being on medication which includes : acyclovir, Nitrofur, and pain meds. I was finally able to go poop (with bearable pain) and after I was able to use the restroom, All my anus issue were gone. I ended up going poop about 3-4 times that day & another 3 times the following day. Day 4 of being on medication, all my symptoms were gone except a new one appeared. I have vagina dryness which is caused an extreme urge to itch, which gets worse after urinating. ( I believe this may be caused by the fact I haven't been drinking much fluids, which is bad when on antibiotics. So I believe I'm dehydrated.)

I plan to make a doctor appointment as soon as I can. So no need to advise me to do so, just looking for answers since I can't get this out of my mind.

There are only two ways:
- a swab that is cultured (preferably then typed) or tested with PCR
- IgG blood test for HSV1 and HSV2, type specific.

Next steps above are the best approach. I'm not thinking herpes is here though!

If your partner tested negative for HSV1 and HSV2 then there is no need for you to test unless you wish to know your status. If a recent infection is suspected you will need to wait until 12 weeks before testing.

Ok thanks for all the info.
I plan to get the blood tests done asap esp. since they only did visual examination on me, Just hearing a negative from that test will be a big relief.

I'm hoping you're right though!

The culture was of the vagina, they didn't bother doing the lesion. They did no tests down there, just viewed it and assumed herpes. Left the room and did my prescriptions.

I read that herpes can't be determined through urine tests or vagina cultures. Only cultures done on lesions/bumps or through a PCR blood tests, is that correct?

Visual examinations are quite inaccurate, so that cannot be relied upon.

Was the culture a swab of the lesion the doctor suspected was herpes?

I'd find out both your test results and your partner's blood test results before acting further on a potential blood test.

Cultures & urine test were the only ones done.
They did not tell me the results of these tests, I still need to attend the follow up appointment. The diagnosis was based on symptoms & visual examination.

I'm not sure on what tests he took, I'll have to ask him later since he's at work.

I cannot see how any of this adds up to a herpes infection. UTI I understand, but not herpes.

What testing was done?

Does your partner have negative IgG results for HSV1 and HSV2. These tests are not part of a standard STD panel?
