I had another HSV 2 test done this one was at 4.5 mths still negitive... I did what you suggested and spoke to Terri she said to accept my results and move on but I don't know I know something is wrong with me I just don't know what it is....
lets hope so lol thanks your awesome!!!!
Okay so odds are I am negative then for hsv 2
More than half of newly infected people convert by 6 weeks.
Okay thanks do you know how conclusive the tests at 4 and at 6 weeks are ?
Also - read some of the posts from my friend "Nervouswait". She had symptoms exactly like yours (plus a chlamydia dianosis) for months after a regrettable 1-time unprotected encounter.
Like you, she had never tested positive on IgG (she tested at 9 and 16 weeks). Last week she got her Western Blot results (after 25 weeks post-exposure) and got the definitive NEGATIVE result. She is now convinced that her symptoms were largely in her head the whole time. In any case, it isn't herpes.
My point is this: you may not be seroconverting becaus of the Valtrex or you may not be seroconverting because you don't have this virus.
That should make waiting a little easier I think.
I really hate to have this discussion with you because for some people it can be pretty depressing...
No one knows to what extent the antivirals will slow someone's conversion. The one really alarming example that Terri Warren sites is a patient of hers how tested positive on a culture and then negative IgG for 2 years while she was on suppresive therapy...she came off of the Valtrex for 3 months and finally tested positive. I would say come off of the Valtrex for at 5 or 6 weeks for a valid IgG. At least.
Also how long could it possibly slow the results last test was done 14 weeks past exposure I am being tested again today with will be 19 weeks past its not like it was like 7-8 weeks we are talking months here ...
Okay but my first 2 text were neg can I not trust those test since I was not on valtrex?
The people I recommended you speak to have misled you.
Please read this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC425069/pdf/jcinvest00131-0091.pdf
Antivirals will ABSOLUTELY slow someone's conversion time. I'm sorry I didn't send this to you yesterday. I had a busy evening.
Okay I called the University of Wasington Virology clinic she said they have no data on the Valtrex interfering with the text and that my symptoms don't sound like herpes symptoms but that I should just get retested at 6 mths just in case. I did contact the testing place and they said it would not effect the test so I am just going to go and have it re done ..
Call UW. I wish I could give you some help here. But, I think that you'll need to test again after at least 6 weeks off of the Valtrex.
They will have more to say on this and about your symptoms. It costs $20 to interact with Terri in the Expert Forum and that generally buys between 3 and 4 responses. She'd be a good resource for you also.
I was pretty much fine I had some irritation inside after sex with a condom in Dec but I was okay until after I had the IUD put in and my first wax done on Feb 27th then I just got swelling at the entrance of my vagina and some some burning on my vulva the constant crawling has been going on since the I had a yeast infection at the beginning of Dec however. I am freaking out now thinking my last blood test was worthless. The person I thought I may have exposed me sex with him was on 12/03 btw.
I think it would be worthwhile for you to call the University of Wasington Virology clinic and speak to one of their clinicians on this (it's free). I don't want to mislead you. Google it.
Also - read what Terri Warren says about how long to wait after Valtrex to re-test.
How many months has this been goin on? 3?
Okay how long should I stop before getting retested for hsv 2? And do my symptoms sound like herpes symptoms?
Well - scratch that worry off of your list. If you have HSV1 for a long time - and you say you have - you cannot get it again. Your body has built immunity to new infection there. So you can't have genital HSV1.
Also - your doctor is wrong. the only 2 tests you have that are valid are the first two. The valtrex could definitely have lowered your antibody count if you were taking it for 6 weeks.
Stop taking it!
I was tested once at 4 weeks once at 6 weeks and once at 3 mths and the only thing showing was my hsv 1 and the reason we some nurse at my obgyn read my results WRONG and said I showed a new infection when I did not they tested me again and it was neg again however I was so messed up in the head that I just stated the meds and have not been able to stop. The 1st 2 blood tests I was not on valtrax the last one I was but I was told it would not mess with results. I believe I might have been exposed to hsv 1 again however thats what I am worried about that I have it in 2 places now...
If you've never tested positive for HSV2, stay the hell off the valtrex. It doesn't seem like it's hleping whatever is going on anyway.
Why were you on it to begin with?
Keep in mind, if you have a new HSV2 infection it could take 3-4 months for your body to produce detectable antibodies...especially since you have HSV1.
Also, the fact that you are taking an antiviral daily is lowering your antibody count. You might actually have HSV2 and the valtrex is impacting your results. .
