Equivocal question on HSV2 Igg

Hello,

I've recently started dating a woman (I'm a stright male).  She had claimed she was tested and seemed like a honest gal (stupid me) so I didn't have a problem hooking up with her, everything except for intercourse, without seeing her results.  I performed oral on her once and the next week she showed me her HSV test results:

Range (0.00-.91 Neg/.91-1.1 equivocal/1.1 and up positive)
Results:
HSV 1 IGG .98 (equivocal)
HSV 2 IGG .93 (equivocal)

I'm extremely nervous that she is positive and this may be signs of a recent infection; her last partner was 2 months prior to the test which was someone with multiple active sex partner (I'm assuming).  She claims they used protection and that she has never had any symptoms whatsoever.  She doesn't seem worried and says I'm over-reacting since her Dr didn't bat an eye at the results.

I was tested prior to this relationship with both HSV1/2 Igg results coming back at 0.2 (Negative).  What are the chances I would have contracted this (suspected) HSV2 infection from performing oral sex once?

Also, how accurate is a .93 HSV igg test?  Seems pretty low on the equivocal scale...

Thanks in advance!

There is no more clarity to be had. The facts are:
- the result is not positive, infected people usually test over 5
- there are proteins in blood sometimes that raise the tested levels.

Anything else is speculation.

Only a retest is add to your knowledge. If that is equivocal or low positive, then the Westernblot could be considered.

Thanks for chiming in!

Anyone else have any information on to why two equivocal results would pop up?  And how accurate is a low equivocal result such as .93?

In the vast spectrum of oral herpes most that do contract it are from a male receiving the oral and its most often associated with hsv1. Those with oral herpes either have a lip sore or the virus is on the surface from shedding and its rubbed into the penis shaft.
A person giving a women oral is not as risky to contract it. as hsv2 prefers the genital area and licking her genital area with the tongue is mixed with saliva which contains enzimes that kill things. Not that its impossible, its just not something that would be overly concerning.

Do any of the other respected board members have any inquiry?

My thoughts as well, for both to be equivocal seemed dodgy.

Thanks for your input.

I agree this seems like a bit of a faulty application of the test to me. For whatever reason, the control minimum my have ended up too high as an example, it could also be unrelated proteins in her blood.

If you are concerned, perhaps a retest is in order, good chance it will be negative.
