First OB

Hi, I'm 99% sure that I have herpes. The doctor said it looks like herpes, I'm just waiting for the swab results to come back. I have a very large and excruciatingly painful cluster of sores around my anus and it burns to urinate. I don't know what to do. How would I go about telling a potential partner, and to keep them safe from the infection? How can I deal with the impending rejection and stigma around it. And for right now, how can I numb the pain. It hurts to walk or sit and the idea of having a bowel movement terrifies me. I'm a 21 y/o female.

Contact catinbarefeet. She's knowledgeable about some online support groups. Make sure to take valtrex and always be up front with new sex partners. That, with protection, decreases transmission risks to an incredible low. You are still a whole person. Things will be okay! Stay positive and best of luck!!!

Update: I went back to the doctors and confirmed that I have HSV2 and was prescribed valtrex and Tylenol 3 to help manage the pain. I was able to finally pass stool once on the Tylenol 3s, so I'm incredibly relieved. I'm feeling optimistic that my life will go on basically as it always has been.

Yes I had anal sex a week ago. He claims to not have HSV but I told him he should get checked regardless. I hadn't had sex in months prior.

Did you participate in anal sex? When was your last sexual encounter? Do you know the individuals current HSV status ?

Painful sores around anus can be and does indicate herpes and getting them swabbed was very smart on your end. Hopefully, your doctor had the sores swabbed type specific so you know what type you have.

Once you receive the results I would advise you to look into suppressive therapy with your doctor. This can help shorten the length of your outbreaks, along with minimizing their occurrence.

I'm sorry you're going through this, but you'll be ok. Talk to your doctor about Valtrex (antivirals) and go from there.

Best of luck.
