Genetial Herpes with out any actual sexual activity.

I have never had sex with any one. The only sexual activity is masterbation and some times i do it with my own saliva. Recently i had a white blister in my groin area and when i checked with the doctor he was telling it is Genital Herpes. I don't understand how i contracted it. Can some one please educate me on this.

I'm sorry you're going through this.

Did your doctor do any testing, or just a visual diagnosis?

Have you ever had a cold sore on your mouth? It's possible - but not really likely - that if you have oral herpes, which is what cold sores are - that you could have transmitted it from your mouth to your penis if your hands touched your mouth, then your penis. However, if you've had oral herpes for a long time - longer than a few months - then you have antibodies that prevent you from getting it in a new location.

If your doctor only did a visual diagnosis, it could be wrong. Visual diagnoses are wrong a lot.

Hi auntiejessi,

Thank you for the quick response !!.

I some times get mouth ulcers some times and  I do nothing when i get them and mostly i observe them when i am under pressure of completing some work. They fade away after few days. I am not sure if they are cold sores.

My doctor just did a visual diagnosis.  How can i get tested to confirm if i have herpes or not.
Mouth ulcers inside your mouth are canker sores. If they are on your lips - on the outside - those could be cold sores, or herpes type 1.

You can get a blood test that will tell you if you have hsv1, but the only problem with that is that it only tells you if you have it - not where you have it. Since you can get hsv1 either orally or genitally (the result of someone who has oral hsv1 performing oral sex on someone else), the blood test is limited. The name of the blood test you want is a type specific IgG herpes blood test. If you can get them to just run the hsv1 test, great. Since you've had no sexual activity, you have no risk for hsv2, and don't need that test. They are often run together, so you may get both.

If you get another sore genitally, get into the doctor as soon as possible - preferably within 48 hrs - and insist that they do a type specific herpes culture on it. This is the best way, since it would tell you what you have and where.

Let us know what happens.
Thank you for the update auntiejessi.

I have scheduled for the tests coming Sunday. I will post my results once I get them.

Once again thank you for all the effort you are putting in to help others.
You're welcome and good luck.
Hi auntJessie,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Please find the results of the blood test below.

HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS (HSV)-IgG E.L.I.S.A 0.13 OD Ratio

HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS (HSV)-IgM E.L.I.S.A 0.6 OD Ratio

Reference Range :-
Negative :  1.20

As per the reference range I don't have herpes is there any other test that I need to undergo to confirm about it .
Reference Range :
Negative :  1.20

Negative :  1.20
Negative - less than 0.80
Equivocal - 0.80 - 1.20
positive: >1.20
No, you don't need to test again. You don't have herpes, which is not surprising.

Your IgG test is a .13, which is definitely negative. The herpes IgM is a terribly unreliable test and should only be done on newborns. It doesn't matter, though, because you were concerned that you infected your penis with hsv1 from your mouth. You don't have it, so you can't have done it.

Whatever caused the symptoms on your penis, it wasn't herpes. If you get it again, get it checked out promptly by your doctor, and have him do a PCR swab or type specific culture on it if he thinks it's herpes. (And maybe go to a different doctor who won't just visually diagnose you.)
Hi auntJessi,

Thanks a lot for all your support and help.
Your initial response was a big relief for me.
I appreciate all the work you are doing :)
You're welcome!
