Genital herpes

Hi guys,

I have had genital herpes (HVS2) fir a year now. At the same time every month, at least 2 weeks before my period, I seem to get symptoms of herpes, or an actual out break.

I am trying everything to slow the virus down.

I'm over it, it plays a massive toll on me and I am tired of the pain. I dont know what helps anymore.

Can anyone reccomend anything or give me some advise?

I'm sorry it's been so hard on you.

Are you taking suppressive medication, like acyclovir or Valtrex? It sounds like your hormones around ovulation are triggering outbreaks for you. I'd urge you to talk to your doctor and let them know that you are getting at least 1 outbreak a month, and you'd like to try suppressives.

Valtrex and acylovir work pretty much the same way. Valtrex is more convenient - usually a once a day dose - and though a generic is available now, it is generally more expensive then acyclovir. Acyclovir is inexpensive, but is a twice a day dose. For some, convenience is more important, and for others, cost is. No right or wrong answer - up to you.

Also make sure that you don't have another infection, like yeast or bacterial vaginosis, that is causing you to have more outbreaks. Secondary infections can wreak havoc on herpes.

Hope this helps!
