HSV 2 - nothing helps!

I was diagnosed with Hsv 2 almost 4 years
ago. I never had any problems with it until I gave birth to my son 6 months ago. In the past I would begin to have any
outbreak ( maybe twice a year) immediatly would take
acyclovir and the outbreak would halt. Since I had my son 6 months ago my outbreaks
have been constant and the antivirals are not working. I have been on very large doses
of Valtrex and Famvir, suppressive therapy. The outbreaks have not stopped coming and they have changed. The
have spread all over my genitals and have intense itching associated with them, as well as swelling and discharge. I have been to 2 different gynos, neither could help me. I have been with the same partner for 4 years but got tested for STDS (chlamydia and gonorrhea) just in case. I have also been struggling with BV as well... Off and on. As soon as an outbreak is dying down, another one comes on. It is taking such a huge toll on me. I haven't been able to sleep with my husband for months and I am in constant pain. Could
there be something else going on? I am losing hope for some relieve. My outbreaks are extremely severe compared to what they were before the birth of my son. Please help

no, valtrex does not cause liver damage.  there are no side effects to long term valtrex usage.

Also stress for most people does not cause ob's. Many studies out there now that show that stress is not a trigger for most people.Indeed it does for some folks but for most no it does not.

red algae also is not effective for herpes. In the test tube it looked promising but in animal studies it totally flunked for reducing ob's and speeding healing of ob's.

There also aren't any dietary restrictions for folks who have herpes ( though certainly we all should be limiting the junk food we eat in general ! ).

I'm sure i"m sounding very nit picky here but it's important that folks get accurate information on this forum.

It's your bv that is most of the problem here. It triggers herpes ob's.  how are you treating your bv?

I also recommend seeing a dermatologist for a work up to make sure that there's not something on top of your herpes and bv going on and causing you rashes too.

Hey there!  I have HSV2 as well.  I have had 2 children since, and I know from my experience, that being pregnant, does cause the outbreaks to abrupt more often.  I was told that I had to take VALTREX daily while being pregnant in the last trimester.  And after birth, I had to continually take it.

Now, of what I remember, is....that....the dosage of the medicine is important, and the frequency of taking it MAKES THE DIFFERENCE!!!!

For instance, doctors really do not want you to take it often, because it does lead to liver damage.  I had one doctor only give me 500 mg pill to take only when I have an outbreak, 3x a day, and it did not work for me.  What worked for me was a 1 gram pill to take EVERY day, until the outbreak went away, and there after.  I continued to take the 1 gram pill once every day, after I ate some food, of course, because the medicine will get you nausious, at the same time frame every day.  So that means, I would eat breakfast in the morning, and take the pill soon afterwards.  It takes about a 2 weeks to work, and I have taken it religiously for 6 months or so, and well, I have very little outbreaks now.  Now, I only take the 1 gram pill for when I have an outbreak.

Also, please note, that your outbreaks may be caused by stress.  If you are allow yourself to be continually stressed out, you will continue to have outbreaks.  Also, if you smoke, or do drugs, it will also cause your outbreaks.  Because they cause harm to your body, and it takes more for your body to repair itself.  The reason for outbreaks, is because your body is not have enough time to repair itself, because of the constant stress or harmful toxins you allow in your body.

It would also help to eat healthy or take immunity supplements that you can purchase from a health store.  I read about Red Algae, that can help relieve the severity of the outbreaks.

Remember to get plenty of sleep.  You need at least 7 hrs of sleep a day, to give your body time to repair itself. Also, drink plenty of water, and eat green leafy vegetables.

Every time you have an outbreak, it depletes your body, because your body has to go into OVERTIME to recoup all the damaged cells in your body.  That is what I think is why you are not getting rest from the outbreaks.

Remember 1 gram of Valtrex.  Not any other brand.  Valtrex is the BEST!  And stay away from acidic foods too!  Do not consume alot of pizza or greasy hamburgers.  Eat chicken, and salads, and stay away from citric fruit.  They will also bring about the outbreak.

Motrin is good for the pain and the swelling.  I take 600mg worth with plenty of water!
I hope this helps.
