HSV 2 First Outbreak Timelines

Hi there. A week ago I was exposed to HSV 2 by a partner that didn’t know he had it. A few days later his test results came back indicating he has HSV 2. The next day I started experiencing itching and burning sensation in a localized spot. A few days later I noticed I was feeling overly tired and have been running a slight fever ranging in the 99’s since. I had increased and yellow discharge around this point too. I went to the doctor who did an IGM test (this was before I realized how pointless this was). Haven’t gotten those results back yet, but my vagina has been read and raw since though no bumps that I can see or feel and no pain with urination. If this is my first outbreak shouldn’t I have experienced lesions or bumps by now based on timeline of symptoms?

I am assuming your exposure was sexual intercourse. Was it protected or unprotected?
If someone had a primary outbreak, they usually develop symptoms 2-10 days after the encounter. Sometimes, more rare, it is up to 20 days.
What did your doctor say about your symptoms? Redness and a raw feeling could be bacterial and need antibiotics. Those symptoms are not exclusive to hsv.
If these symptoms get worse or you notice any sores, get into your doctor immediately. The IGM test might catch the very beginning of an infection but it’s a terrible test for diagnosing adults.

Thanks for your response. We did not have intercourse but did have genital to genital contact. And also had oral and there was fingering. Basically everything but intercourse, and no protection used. The doctor didn’t seem concerned and was more certain it was yeast related, but I don’t know that they took my concerns with the HSV 2 exposure seriously.

I absolutely will, thanks for the advice.
While genital contact, from rubbing or non-penetrative grinding could possible expose someone to the virus but not like unprotected insertive sex.
Now the oral sex poses some risk. If you had oral sex performed on you and he has HSV1, common cause of cold sores, it can be transferred even with no symptoms present. Many people don’t even know they have HSV1 because they don’t get symptoms. Much like HSV2. It’s a tricky virus with some people having zero signs or symptoms and some having full on outbreaks.
