HSV IgM Result

Hello,

I was tested for everything this past Friday, but got my HSV results back a few hours ago.  I don't have any numbers or levels to post; the only result that I got was that HSV IgM was dectected and that the reference range should be not detected.

I do have sex, but I'm very careful and definately practice safe sex.

I've read other forums that said that the IgM test is not very accurate.  Is this true?  Should I be as concerned as I am.  I mean, this is a test that has come out positive.  This has never happened to me.  Please advise.

Thanks.

a pap test only looks for abnormal cervical cells. it's not std testing!

no it can not be better tested through a pap test.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure.  Like I said, she tested for everything, so the test results come in as they are tested, meaning I'm not getting all results at one time...more like every other day I recieve a new result.

I have to go back for a pap smear this Friday.  Can HSV be better seen this way?

I hadn't been to the doctor in a couple of years, and that was my first time having a physical in those years, so I just had her to test for everything.  She did the choloesterol and everything.

No questionable encounters.

the igm test for herpes is a very flawed test. current CDC testing recommendations advise against its use for adults for the purpose of diagnosing herpes infections.

why did you get tested? did you have a questionable encounter?  if so, how long prior to testing had that been?
