HSV Test Results and Confusion

Hi. I'm female. Here are my test results.

October 2016 (test after being ill for a week)

HSV 1 Igg, type specific was .97 (equivocal)
HSV 2 Igg, type specific was < .91
HSV Igm i/ii Combo  was 1.17

January 2017

HSV 1 Igg, type specific was <.91
HSV 2 Igg, type specific was < .91
HSV Igm i/ii Combo  was 1.13

Two different doctors with two different ideas on what the results mean. One says I probably have HSV 1. The other states that I was recently exposed to HSV per the Jan test but which type is unknown and I'll be referred for a Western Blot in 3 months. I did have a partner change in between the tests. I had protected sex with both partners. I had unprotected oral done on me by both partners. Since the January test, I did have two very small sores in my mouth (one was from biting the inside of my lip) and they were gone by day 3. I have had a burning sensation near my vaginal opening which I thought was from the typical chafing I get from wearing sanitary pads as my periods last 8 days. The past 3 days I have had small bumps show up (2 or 3 and not in clusters) but then those bumps are gone in 24 hours and then new bumps appear. I do have a gynecologist appointment tomorrow. My current partner is going to be tested this week. My previous partner will not contact me back.

How would you read my results and what would you recommend?

Hsv igm tests are useless. No expert recommends them. Even the cdc is against the igm test. It's a shame more Dr's are not up to speed on hsv testing.
Yes your hsv1 test is in the range of not positive but just past the negative cut off. This can be many things. It usually means nothing other than the test picked up something but has no clue what. These tests look for antibodies and not the actual virus. You were negative for the igg hsv2.
I wouldn't do the western blot yet. I would just retest at the 3 month Mark. Only do the igg for hsv1 and 2. It's a real long shot that hsv2 is a concern due to the protected Intercourse. Condoms actually do a better job protecting the female.
It's also unlikely you have hsv1 of the genitals as a newly acquired hsv1 genital infection usually has a nasty primary outbreak.

Hav1 testing isn't as accurate as hsv2 so if in fact you have hsv1 it's probably an old infection from your youth and you don't get cold sores. This is common. Either way don't panic just retest and I'm confident you can rule out hsv2.

Hope this helps a little

Thank you responding! I appreciate it! I spoke with my gynecologist (colleague of one of the doctors from above) in detail. He read the reports. He said as well the Igm is basically useless and doesn't know why his colleague even looked at it. He also said a Western Blot is not needed. He said "You've been negative and still are negative for both types". To put my mind at ease, he gave me a script to re-test in 4 weeks. The vaginal issues do not present as herpes. Looks like an allergic reaction to something.
Sounds like your gynecologist know their stuff. Spot on advice!!!
